Symmons Plains Hosts TCRC Penultimate Round: The penultimate round of the Tasmanian Circuit Racing Championships (TCRC) took place at Symmons Plains Raceway over the weekend, featuring more than 75 competitors across eight categories. Hosted by the Light Car Club of Tasmania, the event showcased a diverse range of racing categories, including Formula Vee, Hyundai Excels, Supersprints, Racing and Sports Cars, and the Tasmanian Regularity Cup.

Other categories had weekend dominance by various drivers. In Racing & Sports Cars, Matthew Roberts won all five races with a substantial margin over his closest challengers. In the Sports Sedans and Bayview Tyre and Auto Sports GTA, B, and C categories, Tim Mann won both races and set the quickest lap times. Andrew Colquhoun swept Historic Touring Cars, beating Darryl Bennett. While not all categories were dominated by one driver, competition was fierce, and outcomes were tight.
Three Hyundai Excels wins made Jeremy Bennett stand out over the weekend. Mason Kelly won twice and fought hard in each match. Adam Prewer beat Jeremy Dyer in Formula Vee with three wins. Even outside of the racing categories, notable performances emerged. Kurt Jurgensen, driving a Holden Commodore, dominated the Supersprint by posting a lap time under one minuteover three seconds faster than the next fastest driver, Adrian Cassidy.
In the Tasmanian Regularity Cup, three drivers shared the wins. Bradley Trenham opened with an impressive score of 49, Jeffrey Hindle took advantage of double points in the fifth run to finish with 98 points, and Stephen Olive emerged as the overall winner. Olive achieved three perfect scores of 50 across trials two, three, and four.
As the weekend concluded, attention turned to the upcoming final round of the 2023 Tasmanian Circuit Racing Championship. This concluding event will take place at Baskerville Raceway on November 11-12. With the penultimate round showcasing a blend of dominant performances and closely contested battles across various categories, anticipation builds for the championship’s grand finale.
