Sekiguchi Escape: Halo Device’s Heroic Role in Super Formula Race Incident

Sekiguchi Escape: Three drivers crashed in a recent race. Things took an unexpected and intense turn. The altercation between Tomoki Nojiri and Liam Lawson during Turns 1 and 2 prompted this.

After risking passing Nojiri on the outside, Lawson lost control of his Team Mugen car. Sekiguchi and Tadasuke Makino were propelled into the air when the car spun out of control and crashed into them.

Makino was very ill and was flown to the hospital by plane. He had no major injuries, they subsequently found. Sekiguchi exited his automobile alone despite being rolled over against the right guardrails.

On reflection, Sekiguchi was glad for the halo cockpit protective gear after the race. It’s normal in Super Formula since 2019. He said it kept him from getting hurt.

It was terrifying: “When Lawson’s Red Bull car spun and came back onto the track, it was like, right in front of me.” I tried to turn the car around and slow it down, but it went the opposite way. But “I bumped my head, but it felt like the halo was keeping me safe.” Right now, the car’s halo has a lot of damage. Without it, things may have been dangerous.

Sekiguchi seemed relieved and remarked, “Acceleration helped me get out of the car, but it’s been a few hours, so it’s probably good. I’ll consider it tonight and see how I feel in the morning.”

The other driver that crashed on the opening lap, Nobuharu Matsushita, also survived. The B-Max Racing driver, who was in 13th place, lost control of the car as he sped onto the grass to avoid the commotion.

The author stated, “I think I was following Yamamoto, so I couldn’t see what was in front of me very well.” I knew one Red Bull car had made a U-turn, but I couldn’t tell which way it was going. I tried a right turn. But everyone else went right, so I fell. I hit the railing, and the story ended. I then saw Makino’s automobile smash.”

Matsushita added, “I’m relieved that Makino and Tadasuke aren’t injured.” I didn’t hit hard, so I’m fine. The collision highlights how dangerous motorsports are and how crucial safety equipment like the halo device is. It shows the narrow line between bold race plans and disaster.
