Kyle Larson Homestead Incident: Racing’s Fine Line

Kyle Larson Homestead Incident: Bubba Wallace’s spotter, Freddie Kraft, recently shared his perspective on Kyle Larson’s crash at Homestead-Miami Speedway during last weekend’s Cup Series race. Larson’s strong performance took an unexpected turn when he collided with the pit wall’s sand barrels while shadowing race leader Ryan Blaney into the pits on lap 213 of the 267-lap race.

Kraft, speaking on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, provided insightful commentary on the incident, stating, “It’s hard to say that he ran out of talent. It’s just like, he’s almost too talented for his own good.”

Kraft went on to clarify that he didn’t believe Larson had lost control and that the blame didn’t lie with Ryan Blaney, who was driving the #12 Ford Mustang. Kraft explained, “I don’t think he was ever out of control. I think he panicked and decided ‘I am not gonna wreck the #12, because it’s not the 12’s fault that I am barreling in here.'”

Addressing the speculation about Ryan Blaney‘s role in the incident, Kraft firmly stated that Larson made a conscious decision to avoid wrecking Blaney at the cost of his own race, saying, “But he (Larson) made a conscious decision to wreck himself versus wreck Ryan.”

Freddie Kraft also questioned what Larson did inside the car, whether he let off the brake or tried to correct the situation, had Blaney not been in his path.

Despite the unfortunate incident in Homestead, Kyle Larson remains in a strong position in the NASCAR standings and has secured his spot in the final four of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
