Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) made a noteworthy announcement on Friday, revealing that two Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) drivers will participate in the team’s Late Model program in upcoming races. Josh Berry, set to drive SHR’s No. 4 Ford in the upcoming Cup Series season, will return to his racing roots in three Late Model Stock races, piloting the No. 62 Ford.
Berry is slated to make his KHI debut at the “Fall Brawl” event at Hickory Motor Speedway, a race set for this Saturday night. Notably, he will be teamed up with his Cup crew chief, Rodney Childers, for the first time in this endeavor.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Berry shared, “I’m really looking forward to running the KHI late model. Late Model Stock racing is something I’ve done a lot of in the past, so to get to do that with KHI and (owner) Kevin (Harvick) as they are rebuilding is going to be a lot of fun.”
In addition to the “Fall Brawl,” Berry’s schedule includes participation in the South Carolina 400 at Florence Motor Speedway on Nov. 18 and the Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park on Nov. 26.
Meanwhile, Ryan Preece, who pilots the No. 41 Ford for SHR, will take the wheel of KHI’s No. 62 Late Model on Dec. 30 in the prestigious Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, California. This marks Preece’s second appearance in the late model crown jewel event.
Preece expressed his excitement about the Snowball Derby, stating, “The Snowball Derby is a prestigious race for all those full fender guys, and me coming from the Northeast and open wheels, I almost feel like the outlaw. That guy who is not from the series and I’m going to come in and try to take their trophy.”
As he drives for Kevin Harvick and KHI while representing Morton Buildings, Preece emphasized the significance of potentially bringing the Tom Dawson trophy back to North Carolina and, perhaps one day, to Connecticut.
