Jake Hughes Extends McLaren Contract After Stellar Formula E Debut

Jake Hughes Extends McLaren Contract: McLaren has extended British racing star Jake Hughes’ contract after a stellar Formula E debut. Mercedes used Hughes as a backup and test driver for two years. Hughes joined McLaren this season after the British team took over the German company.

Hughes’s first Mexico City performance was amazing. He finished third and was great in the front, finishing fifth. In only his third race, he started first in Diriyah. He replicated this in Monaco, temporarily leading before finishing fifth. Due to these races, he finished 12th in the drivers’ standings.

Hughes was thrilled, “I’m really glad to be staying with the McLaren Formula E Team for Season 10.” I’ve liked my time on the team for a long time. We had a good season with ups and downs. I had some wonderful moments that I want to improve with the squad next year. We’re convinced we can win races and podium together. I’m excited for Season 10.

Hughes was not just a track star. Before the London final, he set a world record. He broke the indoor speed record versus Lucas di Grassi with a modified Gen3 car. McLaren team director Ian James praised Hughes. Quote: “We always believed in his abilities, but his awesome first season impressed our team and the racing community.” Jake is dedicated to the team and Formula E.

McLaren revealed that Hughes will stay, although Rene Rast will leave after one season. The three-time DTM winner struggled this season. He only finished in the top three once, in Diriyah, and finished eighth in the drivers’ rankings, eight points behind Hughes.

The team stated Rene was crucial to its first season as the McLaren Formula E Team’s triumphs and lessons learned. The team fully supports Rene’s decision to leave and pursue other opportunities. He has done so much for the team this past year that we can’t thank him enough.

The McLaren Formula E team is considering a second driver, and British driver Sam Bird is rumored. The bird was fired from Jaguar by Nick Cassidy. Therefore, many expect him to replace him. The crew is preparing for Season 10, which sounds intriguing.
