Hailie Deegan Xfinity Move: Prudent Career Step or Premature Ascent?

Hailie Deegan Xfinity Move: In a swift move from ThorSport Racing in the NASCAR Truck Series after just one full-time season, Hailie Deegan is making a leap to the Xfinity Series. Despite not clinching a victory in Trucks, the 22-year-old secured a spot in the higher division with AM Racing. While many applaud this career shift, former boss Billy Venturini expresses reservations. In a recent interview, Venturini, the owner of Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Menards Series, revealed his doubts about Deegan’s transition.

Although Deegan’s one of NASCAR’s most popular figures, her racing record lacks luster. With three full-time Truck Series seasons under her belt, she’s yet to break into the top five. Her highest finishes, a pair of sixth places at Talladega and Texas in 2022 and 2023 respectively, raise concerns about her readiness for the move, echoing Venturini’s apprehensions.

“I believe Hailie has the talent to drive, but it’s about stringing together complete races. Progression through 200-lap ARCA races, 250-mile Truck races, and then onto the 300-mile Xfinity races should involve success at each level before moving up,” Venturini shared in an interview.

Acknowledging that financial pressures sometimes force drivers into higher divisions prematurely, Venturini doubts Deegan’s situation fits this mold. He emphasizes the importance of achieving notable success before advancing and worries about skipping developmental stages.

“I don’t endorse moving up without contending or winning races. While some might do it due to financial constraints, it often skips a crucial process, leading to undesirable outcomes,” Venturini added.

Venturini isn’t a fervent supporter of Deegan’s Xfinity move, but he hints that external factors could have played a role in the decision. Drawing from his extensive motorsport experience, Venturini notes the influence of sponsors and stakeholders on a driver’s career trajectory, indicating they might have influenced Deegan’s shift.

“If external parties are pushing your career, your choices become limited. If those backing her decide on Xfinity racing, that’s the route she takes. Success at each level is essential before progression,” Venturini concluded.

While Deegan boasts talent, she’s yet to demonstrate it consistently at the highest tiers. Will Venturini’s skepticism regarding Deegan’s move hold weight? Share your thoughts.
