Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course: Revving Future NASCAR Returns Amidst 2024 Absence

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course won’t feature the sounds of NASCAR engines in 2024, marking a temporary absence from the primary NASCAR series at the venue. Since the NASCAR Xfinity Series first raced at the permanent road course near Lexington in 2013, the track has resonated with the rumble of NASCAR engines.

Announcing its 63rd season of racing, Mid-Ohio revealed a schedule with five major spectator events across 11 weeks for 2024. However, due to the ever-evolving NASCAR schedule, both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series won’t be part of the action at Mid-Ohio next summer.

Jack Carney, the track’s coordinator of marketing and communications, expressed optimism about the possibility of one of the NASCAR series returning in the future. He mentioned that next season’s schedule will include the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race weekend, Superbikes, and IMSA sports car racing, ensuring an exciting lineup of events.

In line with the schedule announcement, Mid-Ohio has commenced the renewal period for Season Race Passes, which will remain open until December 18.

Reflecting on past races, the NASCAR Xfinity Series had a presence at Mid-Ohio from 2013 to 2019 and returned in 2021, while the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series participated in 2022 and 2023 with the O’Reilly Auto Parts 150. The track missed out on NASCAR in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the cancellation of the event that year.

Carney affirmed their continued engagement with NASCAR, particularly regarding discussions about Mid-Ohio’s place on the racing calendar.

The track remains open to fostering relationships and potential future events involving NASCAR, as discussions with NASCAR representatives persist.
