Kurt Busch Eyes Racing Revival Beyond NASCAR Retirement

Kurt Busch Eyes Racing Revival: Kurt Busch officially concluded his NASCAR Cup Series tenure following an injury during the 2022 Pocono practice session. Since then, the former 23XI Racing driver has remained behind the scenes, steering clear of the racecar. However, recent revelations indicate that Busch isn’t quite finished with his racing aspirations.

During an appearance on Corey LaJoie’s podcast, Busch hinted at a potential return, expressing, “Gassing something up, of course, would be something I’d love to do eventually.” When quizzed about his racing wishlist, he revealed, “Top of the list: I’ve always yearned to compete in Le Mans.”

“I had the desire to race there, and Jim France gave me the nod if I were cleared to race with that garage 56 program. Currently aligned with Toyota, that’s my family right now.”

He elaborated, “Yet, I’m still in touch with the Australian V8 Supercars crew, including Ambrose. There’s also racing stuff down in Brazil with, not Tony Kanaan, but (Hélio) Castroneves, who’s my guy.”

Busch also referenced Nelson Piquet, acknowledging his noteworthy Brazilian Stock Cars program, a potential avenue for his participation. “I simply aim to travel, have fun, race among the world’s elite without the pressure of point systems or other commitments…”

Further in the conversation, Busch revealed his efforts to familiarize himself with the track layout of venues like Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans). Discussing his interests, he added, “Then there’s the Nürburgring, a bucket list item after my racing career. I envisioned sending one of my sports cars to Germany and navigating the Nürburgring.”

Beyond leisurely driving his personal sports car, Busch contemplated participating in the rigorous 24 Hours of Nürburgring. However, racing on the Nürburgring would entail navigating intense challenges, including significant lap distances, intricate corners, and dramatic elevation changes.

Nevertheless, the prospect of Busch returning to the race scene in the future, reveling in the joy of racing without championship pressures, remains intriguing.
