Parking Concerns for Fans Attending Bowman Gray Event

The excitement for the 2025 NASCAR season opener at Bowman Gray is tinged with concern over parking issues for fans.

With the designated parking areas being occupied by NASCAR and its broadcast partners, fans attending the event face considerable challenges in finding convenient parking.

Bowman Gray, known for its smaller size, contrasts sharply with venues like Phoenix Raceway, where parking is abundant and well-organized for major NASCAR events.

The limited space at Bowman Gray exacerbates the situation, as it has not hosted a large-scale event in recent years.

Fans are particularly disappointed because the parking spots nearest to the venue have been allocated to NASCAR affiliates, leaving them to seek alternatives further away.

This predicament has prompted NASCAR officials to actively manage the situation, aiming to reduce potential chaos and inconvenience for fans and the local community on race day.

Designated Parking Areas and Shuttle Services

Many fans attending the 2025 NASCAR season opener at Bowman Gray will find themselves relying on designated parking areas and shuttle services to reach the racetrack efficiently. To accommodate the influx of approximately 17,000 attendees, NASCAR has organized parking at Allegacy Stadium and the Innovation Quarter along Research Parkway. Both locations are well-suited for large-scale events, offering ample space and convenient access.

The use of climate-controlled shuttles guarantees that fans have a comfortable trip to the racetrack. Shuttle services are designed to minimize congestion and streamline the transportation process, reflecting NASCAR’s commitment to community stewardship as emphasized by Justin Swilling. This approach not only prevents neighborhood disruption but also improves the complete event experience.

“Part of being a good steward of the sport is being a good steward of the community. And we want to definitely promote people parking and designated parking areas for this event. And, and not doing it in neighborhoods nearby that, that, you know, maybe, maybe suitable for them on a Saturday night, but not to an event of this magnitude.” – Justin Swilling

Road Closures and Traffic Management

To guarantee a smooth and organized experience for the large crowd at the 2025 NASCAR season opener, road closures and tactical traffic management are essential components.

The Winston-Salem Police Department has carefully planned temporary road closures to facilitate the seamless movement of attendees. These closures will be in effect on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from noon to 11:30 p.m.

To assist fans in planning their visits, the following points should be noted:

  1. Road Closures: Key roads around Bowman Gray Stadium will be closed during the specified times, affecting normal traffic flow.
  2. Traffic Signs: Clear signage will direct vehicles around closed areas, ensuring minimal confusion.
  3. Police Presence: Officers will be stationed at important points to guide and manage traffic.
  4. Public Notices: Regular updates and notices will be provided to the public through different channels.

NASCAR and Cook Out Team Up for an Epic Showdown

Cookout Clash Format and Qualifying Process

In the Cookout Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, excitement builds as only twenty-three cars will compete in the 200 green-flag laps to claim victory.

The qualification process involves a series of heat races, a format echoing last year’s event at the LA Memorial Coliseum. Competitors are initially divided into three practice groups, each receiving three practice sessions. The fastest lap from the final session decides the starting positions for the heats. Leading place in the practice secures pole position in the initial heat, following place in the subsequent heat, and so forth.

Each heat race consists of 25 laps, counting only green-flag laps without overtime. The top five from each heat advance, filling twenty spots. Those not advancing face last-chance qualifiers—a 75-lap race where the top two progress.

The last spot is reserved for the highest-ranked driver in the 2024 standings yet to qualify, presenting a potential for unexpected outcomes.
