While Bell, himself a hotspot in the Cup Series, admits he doesn’t know much about McFarland’s background, he admires the YouTuber’s approach. He has watched viral interviews featuring McFarland and believes his engaging character might bring a refreshing perspective to the world of stock car racing, which he contends has become overly consumed with political correctness. Bell told the press in Dega, “You have to say the right things, do the right things, and act a certain way. It’s refreshing whenever you get a guy like that.”
Incredibly, McFarland’s top ten finish was attained despite his car having an unfixable issue with its engine’s valve train. His team instructed him to continue racing and hope the car held up. Despite the odds, McFarland maintained optimism and was able to climb up the order due to some well-timed cautions and restarts.
Alex Bowman, another Cup Series regular, also praised McFarland’s aptitude, positing that the YouTuber’s transition from viral videos to the ARCA Menards Series is commendable, especially considering his limited circuit driving experience. Bowman said of McFarland, “I think he is going about things the right way.” Unlike Bell, Bowman has a clear understanding of McFarland’s abilities and recognizes the seriousness behind his affable persona.
It’s very much possible that McFarland might take part in more competitive events at this level sometime this year, though at this moment there’s no definitive information. Bell and Bowman, along with other competitors, may need to prepare for this potential newcomer.
