Kyle Larson Balances Racing Career and Family Life, Says He’s Unbothered by Son’s Different Passions

Kyle Larson, one of the most versatile names in American motorsport, is riding a packed racing schedule this season, managing tight deadlines across NASCAR, the Indy 500, and various other circuits, all while maintaining perspective when it comes to his family. With competitors’ children like Brexton Busch and Keelan Harvick fast-tracking their way into racing at a young age, Larson’s own 10-year-old son, Owen, has chosen a different path, showing more interest in sports like baseball, flag football, and skating rather than following his father‘s early obsession with racing.

Despite the clear contrast in passions, Kyle Larson remains unconcerned about his son’s career choices. Speaking recently to SpeedFreaks, he admitted,

He’s [Owen] definitely not into racing as much as I was at that age. I mean, all I cared about still to this day was racing. It doesn’t upset me at all that he doesn’t like it, he likes it, and he likes to race when he wants to race, and all that… He’s into other stuff; he’s into more sports and baseball, flag football, skating.

These words highlight not only Larson’s acceptance but also his respect for Owen’s individuality and different interests.

Reflecting on his own childhood, Kyle Larson said he sometimes wishes he had been able to experience typical activities outside the demanding world of racing. Now 32, Larson explains that he’s happy if Owen chooses a distinct path and feels strongly about not placing pressure on his son simply due to the family legacy. He shared an honest perspective, expressing that he wouldn’t alter his historic career, but he does value the opportunities his son has to try a range of pursuits.

Meanwhile, Kyle Larson’s own commitment to his racing journey remains relentless. His calendar is filled with cross-country trips for the Indy 500, duties in the High Limit Racing Series, NASCAR Cup races, and even the occasional Xfinity start.

I feel like right now I’m young and this is my prime and I’m trying to take advantage of that, and with that does take a lot of sacrifice away from other things,

he said in the interview, hinting at the delicate, sometimes fraught, balance between personal ambitions and family responsibilities.

Yet, gratitude permeates Kyle Larson’s outlook. He acknowledges the support of his family, who stand by him despite the sacrifices his fast-moving career requires. The driver understands that racing provides for his family and that his present momentum is crucial for securing their future.

If he wants to secure his family’s future and set up his children for life, then this is the time to dig deep, keep racing, grow his brand, and stack up earnings while he is at the top of his game,

Larson reflected, drawing attention to the stakes and opportunities of his current career stage.

Kyle Larson’s ability to accept his son’s different interests, even as he pursues greatness on the track, demonstrates a thoughtful approach to parenthood and professional ambition. As he navigates intense demands in motorsport, his willingness to foster Owen’s unique passions, while setting an example through commitment and gratitude, underscores the evolving legacy of one of racing’s brightest stars.
