Chase Briscoe says “Talladega Nights” is a truer NASCAR film than Brad Pitt’s F1 movie after F1 driver’s claim

Chase Briscoe compares Talladega Nights to real NASCAR racing, challenging recent opinions about the most realistic motorsport film after several drivers praised the authenticity of Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One movie in Monaco. While F1 driver Esteban Ocon described the new release as the closest to real-life racing he has ever seen, Briscoe publicly supports the comedic depiction in

“Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.”

Different Views on Racing Films Spark Discussion

Following a special screening of Brad Pitt’s new F1 movie, numerous professional drivers shared their excitement about its portrayal of racing life. Esteban Ocon remarked that the film is the most accurate representation of the racing world he has witnessed to date. However, Chase Briscoe, now driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, voiced a contrary opinion online by referencing another popular film.

“I beg to differ, Talladega Nights is basically exactly what it’s like being a NASCAR driver.”

Released in 2006 and directed by Adam McKay, “Talladega Nights” brought NASCAR culture into the comedy spotlight. The film stars Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Sacha Baron Cohen, Gary Cole, and Michael Clarke Duncan. Cameos by ex-NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jamie McMurray further grounded the movie in authentic racing culture. “Talladega Nights” is currently available for Prime Video subscribers at no added cost.

Paying Tribute to Talladega Nights on the Track

Chase Briscoe’s admiration for the film goes beyond posts on social media. During a NASCAR Cup Series event at Talladega Superspeedway in 2023, Briscoe and then-teammate Ryan Preece celebrated “Talladega Nights” by sporting iconic paint schemes from the movie. Preece’s No. 41 car reflected Ricky Bobby’s classic look, while Briscoe’s No. 14 Mustang mirrored the red and blue Old Spice theme made famous by the Cal Naughton Jr. character, originally played by John C. Reilly. The race concluded with Ryan Blaney capturing the win, and Briscoe finishing in 13th place.

Briscoe’s Current Standing in the NASCAR Cup Series

Moving into 2025, Briscoe holds 12th position in the driver standings after notching four top-five finishes, five top-10 results, and earning 278 points across the first 12 races. Hailing from Mitchell, Indiana, he continues his pursuit of a first victory this season. Briscoe’s next attempt will be at Charlotte Motor Speedway, scheduled for Sunday, May 25.

Honoring a Fallen Hero at the Coca-Cola 600

For the upcoming 66th Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, Briscoe’s vehicle will commemorate Staff Sgt. Alan Shaw. Shaw, known as “Superman” among fellow soldiers, lost his life during a covert mission in Baqubah, Iraq, as part of the 1st Cavalry Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Battalion, and 12th Cavalry Regiment.

“This weekend is always a special and humbling weekend in NASCAR. You look around and just realize how blessed we are to have men and women serving our country every day,”

Chase Briscoe said in a statement.

“Carrying SSG Alan Shaw on our windshield this weekend is an honor.”

Shaw is survived by his widow, his son Austin, and his daughters Jourdan and Davyn. Reports indicate that both Shaw’s widow and son will attend the race in Charlotte this weekend.

“I’m looking forward to spending time with them. Hopefully we can put his name in Victory Lane on Sunday night,”

Anticipation Builds for the Charlotte Race

The Coca-Cola 600 will air live on Amazon Prime Video from 6 pm ET, with radio coverage on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Briscoe’s teammate Christopher Bell enters as the defending champion of this prominent NASCAR event, which is recognized as a highlight of the racing season.

Chase Briscoe’s continued celebration of NASCAR culture, both in his nod to “Talladega Nights” and in his tribute to Staff Sgt. Shaw, highlights the unique blend of tradition and personality that defines the sport. With family members of the honored veteran in attendance and strong competition expected among drivers such as Ryan Blaney and Christopher Bell, the event promises to be meaningful for both competitors and spectators alike.
