Who Finished Where? Full Rundown from Stewart Friesen’s Shocking Truck Series Win at Michigan International Speedway

In a dramatic return to Michigan International Speedway for the first time since 2020, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series delivered one of its most chaotic finishes of the season. Stewart Friesen emerged victorious in Saturday’s DQS Solutions & Staffing 250, surviving three overtime restarts and 24 extra laps to earn his first win since 2022. The Canadian veteran wasn’t a dominant force throughout the race, but when it mattered most, Friesen and his Halmar Friesen Racing team executed to perfection.

Stewart Friesen Seizes Opportunity in Late-Race Madness

The day looked to belong to others—Ross Chastain led the most laps, Corey Heim swept the stages, and polesitter Luke Fenhaus appeared in control early—but it was Friesen who claimed the checkered flag. Lining up on the inside of the front row on the final restart, Friesen made a bold move on Grant Enfinger and held off a charging field by just 0.111 seconds.

The win snapped a 72-race winless streak for Friesen and marked his fourth career Truck Series victory. It was also a major morale boost for the No. 52 team, which had struggled with consistency throughout the season.

“I don’t know what to say,” a visibly emotional Friesen said in Victory Lane. “This one’s for all the Canadian fans and everyone at Halmar. It’s been a long road.”

Enfinger matched his season-best finish in second, while Luke Fenhaus finished a career-best third in only his 13th series start. Rounding out the top five were Ben Rhodes and Corey LaJoie, the latter making just his sixth Truck appearance.

Chaos Unfolds in Final Stage and Overtime

The race ran clean through the first two stages with minimal incidents, but the final third turned into a crash-filled affair. A total of seven caution flags flew during the last stage alone, setting up multiple overtime finishes and shuffling the front of the field repeatedly.

One of the biggest turning points came with five laps to go when a restart incident collected several frontrunners, including Chastain—who was leading at the time—and points leader Corey Heim. Although Heim managed to continue and finish 18th, the wreck ended Chastain’s day and denied the fan-favorite a win in his home state.

Carson Hocevar, another Michigan native and a Cup Series regular, appeared poised to play spoiler after leading 56 laps. However, a restart violation during the second overtime attempt dashed his hopes. Hocevar was penalized for pulling out of line too early and ultimately finished a disappointing 11th.

Even with chaos surrounding him, Friesen managed to avoid trouble, gradually worked his way forward, and executed flawlessly on the final restart.

The DQS Solutions & Staffing 250 was originally scheduled for 100 laps but extended to 139 after three overtime attempts.

Notable performances included rookie Frankie Muniz finishing 14th, his best since a top-10 at Daytona, and Gio Ruggiero finishing 12th in just his sixth career Truck race.

Despite finishing 18th, Corey Heim extended his points lead to 133 over Chandler Smith, thanks to his pair of stage wins and consistent performance throughout the day.

What’s Next for the NASCAR Truck Series?

With Michigan now behind them, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series takes a one-week break while the Cup and Xfinity Series travel to Mexico City. The trucks will return to action on June 20 for the Miller Tech Battery 200 at Pocono Raceway. Corey Heim will enter the race as the defending winner and championship leader, but with Stewart Friesen rediscovering winning form and multiple contenders showing speed, the playoff picture is far from settled.

The Pocono event will be especially critical for drivers like Ben Rhodes, Jake Garcia, and Ty Majeski, who are trying to secure playoff positions as the regular season winds down.
