New Jersey Native Steps Up from ARCA to NASCAR with Xfinity Series Debut

Lavar Scott is set to take a major step in his racing career with his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut this summer. The 21-year-old New Jersey native will pilot the No. 45 Chevrolet for Alpha Prime Racing in two upcoming races: the July 19 event at Dover Motor Speedway and the August 2 race at World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis.

Scott, a rising name in the ARCA Menards Series, currently races full-time for Rev Racing as part of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program. His consistent performance this season has earned him an opportunity to compete at the next level in one of NASCAR’s national series.

Climbing the Ranks with Rev Racing

Lavar Scott began his motorsports career at a young age, working his way up through quarter midgets, dirt sprint cars, and late models. In 2020, he joined the Drive for Diversity program with Rev Racing and has since become one of the most promising drivers in the program’s history.

Currently sitting third in the ARCA Menards Series standings, Scott has notched eight top-10 finishes in eight races in 2025. He previously finished second in the 2023 ARCA East Series standings, showcasing his consistency and growth as a driver.

Now, the young driver will make the leap to the Xfinity Series, where the competition is steeper and the pressure higher. For Scott, it’s an exciting but well-earned step forward.

“I’m very excited and thankful for the opportunity to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series,” Scott said in the announcement.

“To be able to race at Dover, my home track, means a lot. I’m looking forward to making the most of this opportunity and learning as much as I can.” – Lavar Scott

Xfinity Series Gets a Major Shakeup

Alpha Prime Racing: A Development-Focused Team

Alpha Prime Racing has built a reputation for giving up-and-coming drivers a shot in competitive equipment. Under the leadership of co-owner Tommy Joe Martins, the team has regularly fielded cars for young talent looking to prove themselves in the Xfinity Series.

Martins expressed full confidence in Scott’s readiness for this challenge.

“Lavar is a great example of why we started Alpha Prime Racing,” said Martins.

“He’s been successful in every series he’s raced in so far, and we believe he has the potential to make a real impact at the next level. We’re excited to have him in the car.” – Tommy Joe Martins

The No. 45 Chevrolet will be sponsored by FoxxTecca for both races, continuing Alpha Prime’s commitment to partnering with companies that support emerging talent and diverse representation in the sport.

A Tough Test at Dover and St. Louis

Scott’s Xfinity Series debut will begin at Dover Motor Speedway, known as the “Monster Mile.” The concrete one-mile oval is challenging for even the most seasoned veterans due to its high banking, tight lines, and rapid pace.

But for Scott, it’s more than just a debut—it’s a homecoming. The New Jersey native will be racing in front of friends, family, and local fans who have followed his journey from regional tracks to NASCAR’s national stage.

Two weeks later, he’ll return to the seat at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis. The flat 1.25-mile oval presents a different set of challenges, including heavy braking zones and technical corners that demand precise car control.

Both tracks will provide a valuable litmus test for Scott’s readiness at this level—and his ability to adapt to high-pressure race environments.

In a recent post on X, Scott wrote,

“Can’t wait to make my debut in the Xfinity Series at my home track with @TeamAlphaPrime and FoxxTecca! Thank you to @RevRacin and @NASCARDiversity for the support!” – Lavar Scott

Representation and Momentum

Scott’s entry into the Xfinity Series is another milestone for NASCAR’s diversity initiatives. As an African American driver rising through the Drive for Diversity program, Scott joins a short list of drivers who’ve helped reshape the image of stock car racing in recent years.

With support from organizations like Rev Racing and NASCAR’s commitment to developing underrepresented talent, Scott has become both a symbol of progress and a real competitor on the track.

His goal, however, is focused not on symbolism, but performance. He enters the Xfinity Series determined to learn, compete, and keep climbing the ladder.
