Tristan McKee, a 15-year-old development driver for Spire Motorsports, made an impressive entrance as a Spire Motorsports ARCA race winner by capturing victory in his ARCA Menards Series debut at Watkins Glen International on Friday, just five days after reaching the series‘ minimum age requirement. McKee surged to the front with three laps remaining at the iconic New York road course, seizing the opportunity after Brent Crews, who had dominated the early part of the event by leading 38 of the 41 laps, experienced a sudden alternator failure and dropped from contention.
Breakthrough Performance Shakes Up ARCA Menards Series
McKee’s accomplishment is remarkable not only for his youth—he was born in 2010, the same year the iPad was launched and Instagram first appeared—but also because he became the second-youngest competitor ever to win a race in the ARCA Menards Series. The only younger race victor in the series’ records is Cup driver Todd Gilliland, who claimed an ARCA win at 15 years and 2 days in his own debut. This result came against a strong field, with Tyler Reif finishing as runner-up while Brent Crews, after dominating much of the afternoon, managed only ninth place once his car was sidelined late.

Reflecting on his first ARCA race experience at this renowned 2.45-mile circuit, McKee expressed the journey of growth and adaptation throughout the event.
“I got better and better as we went through the race. … I feel like I learned a lot, which was the main thing we’re here to do.”

Unconventional Journey for a Rising Star
While McKee’s Friday win marked his first appearance in ARCA, the young driver is no stranger to stock car success. Unusually, he does not yet possess even a driver’s permit and is home schooled to accommodate his rigorous racing schedule, which will keep him active through November. McKee is already set for another ARCA start at Phoenix later this season and has logged laps in both the Cars Tour and Trans Am Series, building up a wide reservoir of experience despite his age.
The race at Watkins Glen carried its own quirks for McKee, including the fact that he drove wearing racing shoes several sizes too small, borrowed from Connor Mosack after forgetting his own footwear at home, which did little to slow the impressive achievement.
Early Successes Highlight a Growing Reputation
This Watkins Glen victory is McKee’s second at the track this summer, following his earlier Trans Am-2 series win there. His winning ways have also taken him to other recognized motorsport venues like Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where he found success in Trans Am as well, and North Wilkesboro Speedway, where he triumphed during a Cars Tour event.
McKee’s career began attracting widespread attention in 2023 after capturing victory in a 100-lap Cars Tour Pro Late Model race at Dillon Motor Speedway in South Carolina at just 12 years old, setting a new record as the youngest winner in series history.
“I would say to win in my debut is one thing, but to just win in general is another,”

What’s Next for McKee and Spire Motorsports
With his breakthrough ARCA debut, McKee has added his name alongside drivers like Todd Gilliland and Brent Crews, further cementing Spire Motorsports’ commitment to developing emerging talent. His packed racing calendar spanning Cars Tour, Trans Am, and more, along with a scheduled ARCA run at Phoenix, signals continued growth for one of grassroots racing’s youngest and fastest-rising competitors. McKee’s rapid progress hints at a bright future both for himself and for Spire Motorsports as they build on this historic debut.
