Tony Stewart, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, has been chosen as the Grand Marshal for Championship Saturday at this year’s Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, taking place at the Tulsa Expo Center. The announcement celebrates Stewart’s deep connection to the Chili Bowl and his lasting influence on both dirt track racing and NASCAR culture.
Honoring Stewart’s Legacy at the Chili Bowl
Known as ‘Smoke,’ Tony Stewart has not only made his mark on the track but has also played a significant role in shaping the Chili Bowl’s history. His presence at the 2024 event is particularly meaningful because he was essential in bridging dirt track racing with mainstream NASCAR, renewing spectator interest in the early 2000s. Stewart’s legacy as an ambassador for the sport will be recognized next week during the high-profile main event.
“Not only is Tony a winner here, but he was also part of what really made the Chili Bowl take off in the early 2000s, and was the one who really started to rebuild the connection between dirt track and NASCAR fans. He’s an ambassador to our sport at more levels than anyone; he’s a great friend, and they don’t make them like Tony anymore, so being able to honor him as our Grand Marshal means a lot to me, and this event,”
stated Chili Bowl co-founder, Emmett Hahn.
“I remember, we made Tony an award in 2014 to recognize what he has done for Sprint Car racing, but this is our chance to let him know how much the Chili Bowl appreciates him,”
said Emmett Hahn.
Stewart’s Record and Contributions
Tony Stewart’s achievements at the Chili Bowl are notable: he won the main event in both 2002 and 2007, started 12 times in the mains over 14 entries, earned three podium finishes, four top-fives, and seven top-10s, with his most recent driving appearance in 2013. After stepping away from driving at this event, Stewart remained closely involved, contributing to the track preparation alongside Brad Chandler, Steve Hahn, Matt Ward, and Martin Edwards. These efforts highlight Stewart’s commitment to enhancing the quality and reputation of the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.
The Significance of the Grand Marshal Role
Being honored as Grand Marshal is a testament to Tony Stewart’s enduring impact on racing at large. The role acknowledges not just his competitive successes, but also his ongoing work as a bridge between different motorsport communities. As the Chili Bowl celebrates Stewart, his legacy will continue to influence both competitors and fans attending the 2024 event at the Tulsa Expo Center, reinforcing his stature as a central figure in the world of dirt track and stock car racing.
