The newly opened Hendrick Motorsports athletic facility in Concord, North Carolina is transforming how team members connect and train. Designed to be more than just a workout space, this Atrium Health Motorsports Athletic Complex is already fostering stronger camaraderie among staff, making it a central hub for both athletic performance and organizational culture.
Creating Spaces for Interaction Beyond Training
Pit coach Jacob Claborn, speaking from his modern office within the complex, extended an open invitation to his teammates:
“Hey, anytime you need a change of scenery, you’re more than welcome to come down and sit,”
said Jacob Claborn, Pit Coach. He noted the increased movement of staff throughout the facility, a shift from previous routines where interaction was often limited.
Claborn further emphasized the facility’s holistic approach, highlighting the introduction of enhanced recovery amenities for athletes.
“It’s not, come in and get your workout, practice and go home. The guys are hanging out a bit longer,”
said Jacob Claborn, Pit Coach. He explained that these features encourage staff to stay in the building longer, leading to more genuine, spontaneous connections between coaches and team members.
Fostering Team Unity and Company Cohesion
The facility’s open-floor design encourages more frequent interactions, enhancing both the culture and cohesiveness of individual teams. Claborn explained,
“We’re all in one building. Before we were separated. Outside of a meeting or practice, I didn’t necessarily see the guys much. They were in the weightroom or up the hill and now I’ve got guys that walk by the office every single day and just poke their head in and say, ‘Hi’. And so, being able to interact with the guys more frequently is just going to build more and more cohesiveness within our company and our department and the individual teams they’re on, for sure,”
said Jacob Claborn, Pit Coach.
Building unity was a guiding principle behind the center’s design, as plans always placed an emphasis on not just physical conditioning, but also recovery and recruitment. With everyone now connected under one roof, both formal and informal relationships have a chance to flourish.
Shaping the Future of Hendrick Motorsports
The new facility is poised to play a major role in strengthening the internal culture at Hendrick Motorsports. As teammates and staff enjoy improved amenities and more natural interaction points, the racing powerhouse expects even deeper bonds to form across departments. This strategic investment signals the organization’s commitment to performance, teamwork, and long-term success.
