Jimmie Johnson Debuts Helmet of Heroes at Daytona 500

Jimmie Johnson is unveiling the Helmet of Heroes at the Daytona 500 on February 15, an initiative dedicated to honoring America’s fallen firefighters, according to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The Helmet of Heroes aims to spotlight the selfless service of firefighters, with Johnson collaborating alongside the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, and Carvana for this tribute.

Honoring Fallen Firefighters Through Racing

Johnson’s deep appreciation for firefighting stems from his upbringing in El Cajon, California, a place regularly impacted by wildfires. The influential experiences in his local community played a significant role in selecting firefighters as the focus for this project. As Johnson explained,

“Growing up in El Cajon, I saw firsthand how much firefighters mean to their communities,”

Johnson said.

“I’ve always said that if racing hadn’t worked out, I would have wanted to be a firefighter. The courage, selflessness, and commitment it takes to do that job is something I deeply respect. The Helmet of Heroes is about honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice and standing with the families who continue to carry their legacy every day.”

The Helmet of Heroes, developed by Legacy Motor Club, is designed to recognize the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). The foundation, which is congressionally chartered, is dedicated to commemorating firefighters lost in the line of duty, supporting their relatives, and striving to reduce such tragedies within the profession.

Community and Family Support at Daytona 500

During Daytona 500 weekend, two representatives from the foundation—Jessica Seaburg and Marisa Harris Boykin—are expected to attend as guests of Pye-Barker Fire & Safety and Legacy MC. Both women are daughters of fallen firefighters, Kevin Seaburg and Clifford Harris, whose service ended in the line of duty during their childhoods.

Today, Jessica Seaburg and Marisa Harris Boykin provide support to other Fire Hero Families as peer supporters and co-founded the Children of the Legends Facebook group. This community offers a space for children of fallen firefighters to share experiences, stories, and support in memory of their loved ones.

Fundraising Auctions to Further the Cause

The custom Helmet of Heroes, featuring branding for Pye-Barker and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and worn by Johnson during the race, will be auctioned following the Daytona 500. According to organizers, proceeds from the auction will directly benefit the NFFF’s programs, continuing efforts to commemorate sacrificed lives and support their families.

Johnson’s tribute at this year’s Daytona 500 not only celebrates service and legacy within the firefighting community but also seeks to amplify awareness about the challenges and sacrifices faced by firefighters and their families nationwide. The Helmet of Heroes initiative stands as a powerful reminder of the impact and importance of honoring everyday heroes.
