Chase Briscoe’s COTA Hopes Dashed by Costly Breakdown

Chase Briscoe experienced a setback in his COTA performance, as the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was forced to exit the race prematurely on Sunday due to a mechanical problem. Piloting the No. 19 Columbia Bank Toyota Camry XSE, Briscoe finished 37th after a transaxle failure ended what looked to be a promising run.

Strong Start Undone by Transaxle Issue

Briscoe’s aspirations at Circuit of the Americas unraveled when a problem in the car’s transaxle surfaced as he was exiting a corner. He later explained the sudden issue and its impact on his race:

“Something in the transaxle, I guess, broke coming out of the corner. Went to shift and it was like I was in neutral and it was trying to spin the one side and not the other. It’s really unfortunate, felt like we were good enough to win truthfully, top five car pretty easily. Just frustrating, it will obviously set us back points wise and next week. But Phoenix has been a really good track for us so we will see what we can do. Thanks to Columbia Bank and Toyota for all the support this weekend.”

Points Standings Take a Hit, Eyes on Phoenix

The mechanical failure does not just affect Briscoe’s individual race result, but also impacts his standings as the season progresses. Despite the frustration, Briscoe remains focused on the future, particularly as his No. 19 team looks ahead to their next race at Phoenix—a venue where he has previously seen strong results. Support from partners such as Columbia Bank and Toyota, as well as the backing of Joe Gibbs Racing, will be critical as the team works to recover.

Shifting Momentum for Key Competitors

Other drivers such as AJ Allmendinger, Carson Hocevar, and teammate Connor Zilisch continue to make moves in the season, while Briscoe aims to regroup and return stronger. The incident at COTA will serve as a test for both Briscoe’s resolve and his team’s ability to bounce back from adversity in the highly competitive race landscape.
