Brodie Kostecki Clinches Back-to-Back Melbourne Supercars Wins

Brodie Kostecki achieved another impressive victory in the Repco Supercars Championship at Albert Park, Melbourne, on Friday, marking his second consecutive Melbourne Supercars victory despite facing illness. The event, which took place as part of the F1 Australian Grand Prix weekend, delivered dramatic moments and a fiercely contested race for all drivers involved.

Kostecki Overtakes Payne in a High-Stakes Race

The Melbourne SuperSprint event, which made up Race 5 of the championship, featured a 19-lap contest with Matthew Payne earning pole position. Brodie Kostecki, riding the momentum of his Thursday win, lined up second on the grid, even as he continued to manage his health. At the race’s start, Payne maintained his lead after fighting off an early challenge by Kostecki. Further back, chaos erupted as Zach Bates and Macauley Jones spun at Turn 3, and Will Brown‘s aggressive maneuver on Cooper Murray at Turn 11 resulted in both sliding into the gravel, earning Brown a 15-second penalty.

Lead Changes and On-Track Drama Shake Up the Field

By lap five, Kostecki made his decisive move on Payne at Turn 11, seizing the lead as Ryan Wood joined the frontrunners to break away from the rest of the field. The spectacle continued on lap ten when Broc Feeney locked his rear tire and collided with Aaron Cameron at Turn 13. During the commotion, Kai Allen attempted to pass but made contact with Cameron, unknowingly creating an opening for Feeney to advance to fourth place.

Kostecki Holds Off Final Challenge to Secure the Win

In the closing laps, Matthew Payne pressed hard to regain the lead from Kostecki. Despite sustained pressure, Kostecki’s car proved too strong, and Payne was unable to overtake. Kostecki crossed the finish line just 0.571 seconds ahead of Payne, cementing his back-to-back success. Ryan Wood secured third place, bringing Toyota its first podium finish in 46 years. Cameron Water and Kai Allen rounded out the top five, while Jack Le Brocq, Broc Feeney, Thomas Randle, Andre Heimgartner, and Anton De Pasquale filled out the top ten.
