NASCAR 2024 Seats: Denny Hamlin and John Hunter Nemechek Confirm Their Spots

NASCAR 2024 Seats: In the world of NASCAR racing, big news has come in. Denny Hamlin, who’s won 50 races, decided to stick with Joe Gibbs Racing. This team is famous, and Hamlin has been with them for 20 years. He’s signed up to race for them a bit longer, maybe three more years. Hamlin’s choice was kind of expected because he’s also part-owner of another Toyota team, the 23XI Racing. If he moved to a different team, things would get complicated since his other team uses Toyota cars.

But while many people guessed Hamlin’s choice, another racer made a surprise move. John Hunter Nemechek, a young racer from Florida, decided to race for Legacy Motor Club next year. They currently race with Chevrolet cars but will use Toyota from 2024. This is interesting because Nemechek will be teammates with Erik Jones and the famous Jimmie Johnson. Johnson isn’t racing full-time, just a few races here and there.

Earlier this year, a racer named Noah Gragson was supposed to race in the No. 42 car for Legacy Motor Club. But they let him go after he posted something not-so-good on the internet. Now, different racers will use that car for the rest of this year.

Nemechek’s family has deep roots in racing. His dad, Joe, won many races in the past. Sadly, his older brother died in a crash before he was born. But Nemechek has grown up around racing. When he was very young, he would even wear racing suits like his dad’s!

Cal Wells III, the big boss at Legacy Motor Club, has known Nemechek since he was a baby. He’s seen him grow from a kid to a talented racer. He believes Nemechek is perfect for his team and thinks he’ll do great things.

Nemechek, at 26 years old, is happy to be racing full-time. He began racing trucks when he was 16. He tried Cup Series racing in 2020, but it didn’t go so well. So, he went back to trucks and won a lot. This year, he’s raced with Joe Gibbs Racing and won five times. He’s done so well that he’s second-ranked, right behind Austin Hill. And in 2024, he’ll start racing with Legacy Motor Club in the big Daytona 500 race.

One last interesting point: after Hamlin decided to stick with Joe Gibbs Racing, that’s when Nemechek chose to join Legacy Motor Club. If Hamlin had left Joe Gibbs Racing to race for his own team, Nemechek might have taken Hamlin’s spot.
