Van Gisbergen’s professional racing debut came in 2007 when he joined Team Kiwi Racing to compete in the Supercars Championship at the Jim Beam 400 at Oran Park Raceway. His entry into the series was significant as he became the 200th driver to start a race in a V8 Supercar. His potential was quickly recognized, and later that year, he secured a long-term contract with Stone Brothers Racing. 

In 2011, Shane made a significant career move by joining Triple Eight Race Engineering, one of the most prestigious teams in the Supercars series. His tenure with Triple Eight catapulted him to new heights, enabling him to secure multiple race wins and establish himself as a consistent championship contender. Venturing beyond Supercars, van Gisbergen expanded his racing portfolio by entering the world of NASCAR. In the NASCAR Cup Series, he ran a limited schedule with Kaulig Racing, participating in three races over two years. Remarkably, he won his first race in the series, the 2023 Grant Park 220 in Chicago. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Shane continued with Kaulig Racing, competing in seven races over a single year. 

Van Gisbergen also made a brief appearance in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, competing in just one race, the 2023 TSport 200 at IRP.
