HISTORY
On December 4, 2018, Spire Sports + Entertainment acquired a charter from the defunct Furniture Row Racing, announcing they would field the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s and appointed former Furniture Row Racing President Joe Garone to the same role at Spire Motorsports. Initially, the team operated from the same facility as Premium Motorsports through a partnership with Premium’s owner Jay Robinson. This arrangement continued until Premium was sold to Rick Ware Racing in 2020, after which Spire operated out of the Rick Ware Racing shop for the remainder of the season.
In August 2020, Spire Motorsports expanded by purchasing assets from Leavine Family Racing, enabling them to field two cars starting in 2021. They relocated their headquarters to the former AK Racing shop in Concord, North Carolina. In October 2020, Spire secured a third charter, which was leased to Trackhouse Racing for the 2021 season. Additionally, in December 2020, former Hendrick Motorsports crew chief and NASCAR on NBC analyst Steve Letarte joined Spire as a consultant.
In June 2021, Spire sold two of its charters to Kaulig Racing, planning to continue competing with the No. 7 car, driven by Corey LaJoie, as a chartered entry in 2022. The team also acquired the No. 53 charter from Rick Ware Racing for their No. 77 car in 2022. By September 2023, Spire purchased a charter from Live Fast Motorsports for $40 million to field a third team in 2024. Shortly thereafter, in late September, Spire announced the acquisition of assets from Kyle Busch Motorsports. On December 4, Doug Duchardt, former COO of Chip Ganassi Racing, was appointed as President of Spire Motorsports, signaling ongoing growth and strategic expansion within NASCAR.
