Brodie Kostecki NASCAR Journey: Richard Childress is eyeing an expanded NASCAR presence for Australian racer Brodie Kostecki, who is contending for the Supercars title this weekend. Childress, a veteran NASCAR team owner, traveled to Adelaide to support Kostecki’s championship bid, solidifying his squad’s alliance with Kostecki’s Erebus team in Australia.
Expressing his aspirations, Childress highlighted plans to have Kostecki participate in multiple NASCAR races next year. He aims to broaden Kostecki’s NASCAR experience, aiming for two or three road course events and an oval race, citing the driver’s prior oval racing background.
The schedules have to coordinate; Ive got a couple in mind that Id like him to run were looking at Watkins Glen and Sonoma because hed do well there,” stated Childress optimistically.
Kostecki previously made his debut in NASCAR’s top tier at the Indianapolis road course in August, piloting a third RCR entry supported by Peter Adderton’s MobileX company. Despite qualifying 11th, Kostecki encountered a setback while attempting to secure a top-five finish, as he lost control, collided with the wall, and incurred significant damage to his car. This mishap relegated him to start from the rear in a backup vehicle, resulting in a 22nd-place finish at the tail of the lead lap.
Reflecting on Kostecki’s NASCAR foray, Childress commended the impact of the Australian racer’s presence on RCR’s drivers, noting improvements, especially on road courses. He emphasized the high level of competition in Supercars, acknowledging the learning curve that NASCAR drivers would experience in such a competitive environment.
Childress also praised Shane van Gisbergen‘s remarkable NASCAR debut victory for Trackhouse at the Chicago street race last year. Van Gisbergen’s win in challenging weather conditions garnered global attention, showcasing his adaptability and skill.
As Kostecki and van Gisbergen contend for the Supercars title at the Adelaide 500, anticipation builds around Kostecki’s pole position for Saturday’s race despite a slight scrape against a wall, while van Gisbergen secured the sixth starting position.
