Brodie Kostecki Supercars Triumph: The recent Supercars champ, Brodie Kostecki, doesn’t seem in a hurry to shift gears despite the likelihood of expanding his NASCAR involvement in 2024.
At 26, Kostecki clinched both his and Erebus Motorsports inaugural championship at the Vailo Adelaide 500, securing six race wins throughout the 2023 season.
In this achievement, he overcame three-time consecutive title-holder Shane van Gisbergen, who’s now set to head to the U.S. this month to pursue a NASCAR career.
Van Gisbergen had a successful NASCAR debut and later appeared in the top tier at Indianapolis in August. Coincidentally, Kostecki made his own Cup Series debut at the same race, driving for Richard Childress Racing.
Childress has openly discussed plans to field Kostecki in up to five races in 2024, including an oval. Notably, the West Australian honed his skills in the K&N Pro Series during his teenage years.
While the prospects of NASCAR beckon, Kostecki, despite pocketing a significant Supercars accomplishment, remains focused on domestic pursuits aiming for another championship win and victories at iconic events like Bathurst.
Next year, I want to take the title, Kostecki expressed. There are also races like Bathurst that I aim to conquer. So, Ill approach it step by step, but my unfinished business here is substantial.
In this years enduros, Kostecki, alongside co-driver David Russell, secured second place in both events. At the Bathurst 1000, Kostecki impressively earned pole position driving his Coca-Cola Camaro.
Until this year, his third as a full-timer in the Repco Supercars Championship, his best finish in any race within the category’s top flight was second place.
However, when Kostecki sealed the championship, it wasn’t a moment of disbelief but rather one of fulfillment, acknowledging the collective effort with Erebus during the first Gen3 era season.
I believe in it; the team worked incredibly hard. Though all teams in the pit lane stepped up, we particularly got our act together early with the new Gen3 cars, Kostecki reflected.
Its been a journey for us over the past three years. Our experience, combined with my engineer George Commins’ efforts, played a significant role. Having Will Brown as a teammate, pushing me forward throughout the year, was equally pivotal.
