The NASCAR Chicago Street Race, circling around Grant Park, is scheduled to thrill fans on Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7.
“We’re immensely excited to once again host fans in the vibrant city of Chicago for this must-attend event,” expressed Chicago Street Race President Julie Giese in a statement.
“The 2024 race promises an all-encompassing experience, featuring top-notch racing, star-studded musical performances, and the picturesque backdrop of the city skyline and lakefront.”
The inaugural 2023 event encountered significant opposition, marked by concerns about environmental impact, safety, noise disturbances for city residents, and road closures. Initially greenlit under former Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the race proceeded during Mayor Brandon Johnson’s tenure, who expressed intentions to assess the three-year NASCAR agreement.
However, despite initial challenges, including rain showers on race day, drivers persevered while local and global fans rallied their support.
For the forthcoming 2024 edition, the city secured concessions from NASCAR, focusing on reduced setup and teardown duration and addressing the city-incurred expenses related to security and logistical arrangements.
While the 2.2-mile, 12-turn course remains unchanged, stock cars are set to thunder along Michigan Avenue, Columbus Drive, DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and by the iconic Buckingham Fountain.
Much like the 2023 event, this year’s festivities in Grant Park will feature prominent musical acts and entertainment over the holiday weekend.

How many laps is the Chicago Street Course?
NASCAR recently revealed that the 2024 Cup Series Chicago Street Race will be reduced in length. The race will now cover 165 miles and consist of 75 laps, down from the previous 220 miles and 100 laps.
