Josh Berry Reflects on Winning Chemistry with Wood Brothers Racing Ahead of Thrilling Talladega Showdown

He scored his first career victory this year at Las Vegas and is looking to build on the chemistry he has developed with the team as they head into one of NASCAR’s most unpredictable races on the calendar at Talladega Superspeedway. So far this season, Josh Berry has led a total of 116 laps and earned top-five starting spots in three of the nine races. As they approach Talladega, Berry sits 17th in the drivers’ standings and has collected six Playoff points, which will be beneficial come playoff time starting on August 31.

Speaking ahead of the race weekend at Talladega, Berry acknowledged the unique challenges that Superspeedway racing presents. He pointed out that some drivers have a natural knack for understanding how to race in the draft, which is why they often find themselves leading during these events. Josh Berry emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “The strong communication and bond we’ve built within the Wood Brothers Racing crew has been essential for us running up front.” He attributed his team’s success this season to the collaborative spirit and dedication shared within the group.

NASCAR’s superspeedway rules dictate there will be no practice runs for Cup Series drivers, which adds another layer of intrigue as they prepare for the race. Instead, Berry and his fellow competitors will directly attempt to qualify for the race on Saturday at 10:30 AM ET. Despite his impressive start with Wood Brothers Racing, Berry was not the team’s first choice for the No. 21 car in 2025.

In a recent interview on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, team co-owner Eddie Wood revealed that when looking for a new driver after the 2024 season, they initially approached other candidates before Josh Berry. Eddie explained that due to Ford’s longstanding relationship with Chase Briscoe, he was their first choice. However, after Briscoe joined Joe Gibbs Racing, Wood Brothers Racing shifted their focus to Berry, which turned out to be a fruitful decision.

Berry’s remarkable performance has not only given the team their 101st victory but has also marked a significant milestone in what is their 75th year in the sport. The team believes that each time Josh Berry takes the track on a Sunday, he carries the potential to secure another victory.

The Jack Link’s 500 is set to start at 3:00 PM ET on Sunday, April 27. This event is sure to be a test of skill and courage, as Berry continues to foster his winning chemistry with Wood Brothers Racing amid the thrill and unpredictability of Talladega.
