NASCAR Cup Series titleholder Brad Keselowski sparked discussions recently after loudly criticizing a feature on cars – the auto start-stop system. The champion boldly declared it amongst the top-10 worst automotive inventions. Keselowski’s outburst comes amidst a challenging start to his 2025 campaign.
The 41-year-old co-owner of Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing moved from Team Penske in 2022. With 36 Cup wins under his belt, Keselowski is not a stranger to NASCAR success. However, his 2025 season has been off to a rocky start with nine races completed and no top-10 results to boast of, holding an average finishing position of 25.0.
Despite recent struggles, the Talladega Superspeedway race provides a beacon of hope for Keselowski’s fans. This 2.66-mile superspeedway is known to be his best track, boasting six wins from 32 career races. Although his last victory on this track dates back to 2021, Keselowski has shown strong performances there, including two runner-up finishes in 2024.
Keselowski qualified 22nd at Talladega, the same position as his spring race in 2024, where he finished second. On the eve of the race, he saw a social media post criticizing the auto-start/stop system in cars. Keselowski seized the opportunity to voice his vexation by responding, “Hands down top-10 worst invention in automotive history”.
This condemnation by Keselowski draws attention to automotive features and signifies his elite status in the industry due to his business acumen and driving ability. After a dry spell of 32-race winless streak, it is likely Keselowski aims for a comeback at Talladega on Sunday. As the race coverage begins at 3 p.m. ET on Fox, the anticipation builds.
