Ryan Preece has taken the NASCAR world by storm during his rookie season with RFK Racing, making headlines this past weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Racing the No. 60 Ford, Preece surged ahead, crossed the finish line as runner-up, and seemed set to celebrate one of his best performances to date. However, the celebration was cut short when NASCAR disqualified his car after the race, citing an unintentional spoiler adjustment made during the pre-race inspection, which failed to meet approved compliance standards.
The turn of events dealt a blow to Ryan Preece and his team, dampening what should have been a weekend of triumph. Reflecting on the moment, Preece explained the circumstances, emphasizing the team’s genuine intention to comply with rules.
It’s not like it was a performance thing. I don’t think you’d want to add a shim to put spoiler angle in a car. It was to meet the rule that to pass tech, and in the heat of the battle, you’re just trying to get through tech. So, you know, it is what it is,
he told FOX’s Bob Pockrass.
Despite the disappointment, Ryan Preece remains resolute heading into the next event at Texas Motor Speedway. Energized and focused, he shared how the team’s attitude has helped keep spirits high.
The thing that I like about our group is we’ll go out there, execute, get stage points and keep putting ourselves in positions to have great days like that. Yeah, just keep fighting,
Preece said. That fighting mentality has been a hallmark of his young career with RFK Racing and continues to fuel his breakout campaign.
Since joining the organization over the offseason, Ryan Preece has found support and camaraderie alongside experienced teammates Chris Buescher and Brad Keselowski. Preece credits their influence and insight for helping him adapt and improve during his first season.
I couldn’t be more proud of being a part of RFK and everything,
he added.
The knowledge and the support, and everything that we’ve had, or I’ve had — it’s been a lot of fun.
Preece also described the dynamic within the team, noting how learning from both Buescher and Keselowski has elevated his approach to racing.
Even going into the mindset with Chris and Brad — it was funny, at the beginning of that race, you know, Brad, by Lap 3, was potentially leading that race, coming from where he was. So it’s just — it’s neat to study, and see all the different ways about how you attack a race. Glad to be part of it,
he observed.
Statistically, Ryan Preece’s rookie season stands out, as he currently sits nineteenth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. With three top-ten finishes and a top-five to his name, he is firmly in contention for a playoff spot—a remarkable feat for a rookie. While the Talladega disqualification hurts, the determination and resilience Preece has displayed suggest he is ready for greater success. As the season continues, his impressive performances, ability to rebound, and drive for improvement make him a driver to watch, and fans can expect even more from Ryan Preece and RFK Racing in the weeks ahead.
