Harrison Burton returns to NASCAR Cup spotlight in surprise All-Star Race drive for Rick Ware Racing

Harrison Burton is set for a dramatic comeback to the NASCAR Cup Series spotlight as he joins the lineup for the 2025 All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway this weekend, driving the No. 51 Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing. After missing out on any points-paying Cup starts this season, Burton’s sudden entry is making headlines, as his automatic qualification comes after last year’s stunning win at Daytona—a result that propelled him into the playoffs and underscored his potential as a fierce competitor.

This appearance holds special significance, not only for Harrison Burton but also for Rick Ware Racing, which is entering the All-Star Race main event for the first time in its history. Out of 20 drivers automatically eligible for the main show, Burton’s inclusion is based on pure merit, an achievement mirrored in team owner Rick Ware’s comments.

“Being a part of the NASCAR All-Star Race for the first time is a milestone moment for our organization,”

said Ware.

“It’s an honor to have a place in the main event, and we’re just as proud to provide Harrison the opportunity to compete in the All-Star Race. He definitely earned his spot and he deserves to be here. It’s a big opportunity for both of us.”

Burton’s recent journey has been a mix of challenge and triumph. After losing his full-time ride with Wood Brothers Racing at the close of last season—an outcome that saw Josh Berry step into the No. 21 seat—Burton’s career trajectory seemed uncertain. However, his unexpected Daytona victory, which marked the 100th Cup win for the storied Wood Brothers team, quickly changed his fortunes, pulling him from the bottom of the standings into the playoff mix. Despite finishing last among the sixteen playoff contenders, that single win secured his spot in this year’s All-Star main event, marking the first time Harrison Burton will compete on this stage after previously falling short in three attempts through the Open.

Competing alongside NASCAR’s elite provides Burton with a valuable opportunity to showcase his skills and determination.

“The All-Star Race is one of those events you grow up dreaming about, so to have a spot on the grid is really special,”

Burton shared.

“Winning at Daytona last year was a huge moment in my career, and I’m thankful to Rick and the entire RWR team for giving me the opportunity to make that win count by putting me in their car for the All-Star Race. We’ve been building some great momentum in the Xfinity Series, and I’m looking forward to carrying that into North Wilkesboro and competing against the best in the sport.”

Currently, Harrison Burton competes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with AM Racing. His year so far has been steady, tallying one top-five and six top-ten finishes over the course of twelve races, which has landed him tenth in the championship standings. These performances reveal a renewed drive and consistent growth, making his All-Star Race return possible and even more momentous for fans.

As Harrison Burton prepares for this pivotal event, the impact is clear—not only is he reclaiming attention at the top level, but Rick Ware Racing also gains vital exposure by entering the All-Star Race for the first time. For Burton, this high-profile appearance could serve as the start of a new chapter, fueling speculation about his long-term future in the NASCAR Cup Series. All eyes will be on North Wilkesboro as he competes, with fans eager to see whether this comeback can spark further opportunities and even more memorable moments in his racing career.
