William Byron signs four-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports through 2029

William Byron signs four-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports, keeping the No. 24 Chevrolet driver at the iconic NASCAR team through 2029, as announced on Friday. The decision comes as Byron, a two-time defending Daytona 500 winner, solidifies his role as a leading figure in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Byron’s Ongoing Success with Hendrick Motorsports

At just 27 years old, William Byron has rapidly become one of the sport’s standout drivers since joining the NASCAR Cup Series in 2018. With 14 victories amassed since 2020—thirteen of those alongside crew chief Rudy Fugle—Byron’s record is among the best in recent Cup seasons. Since their partnership began in 2021, the duo has secured the second-highest win total at the Cup level over that period, demonstrating remarkable consistency and teamwork at the highest echelon of stock car racing.

We’ve built something special with the No. 24 team,” said Byron in a team press release. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue working with amazing people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick. We’ve accomplished some great things that we’re really proud of, but we have even bigger goals ahead. I’m excited to go after them with this team and this organization.

Notable Achievements and Playoff Performance

In February, Byron etched his name in NASCAR history by becoming only the 13th driver to win the Daytona 500 more than once and the first to claim consecutive victories in the season-opening “Great American Race” since Denny Hamlin achieved that feat in 2019 and 2020. His latest Daytona 500 triumph has already provisionally secured his spot in the 2025 postseason, reflecting his strength early in the current Cup Series standings—he currently sits second, trailing only teammate Kyle Larson.

Every year since 2019, Byron has advanced to the Cup Series Playoffs, reaching the Championship 4 in the previous two seasons. Before his promotion to the Cup Series, Byron captured 11 combined wins in the Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series, including clinching the 2017 Xfinity Series championship after a four-win season, further emphasizing his longstanding track record of success.

An Extension Anchored During a Crown Jewel Weekend

The timing of Byron’s contract extension coincides with NASCAR’s annual Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, one of the sport’s premier events. The racetrack is notably located just across the street from the Hendrick Motorsports headquarters, underscoring the connection between Byron, the team, and their home base during a high-profile week on the racing calendar.

William is the real deal,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, in the release. “What makes him so special is that he combines natural ability with an unrivaled work ethic. You see it in the great ones – the drivers who could get by on talent alone but choose to outwork everyone anyway. That’s William. On top of it all, he’s a person of high character and embraces his role as a leader. We’re proud to have him in our lineup and look forward to many more wins together.

What This Means for Byron and the Organization

This new agreement ensures that William Byron will continue to build on his already impressive legacy with Hendrick Motorsports at a time when both he and the team are performing at their peak. The extension not only signals confidence in Byron’s ongoing potential but also offers continuity for a championship-caliber partnership during pivotal years in his career. The organization’s commitment comes as Byron pursues more victories and seeks to further establish himself among the sport’s elite, while fans and team members alike look forward to the milestones that may follow over the next several seasons.
