Supercars Champ Will Brown Joins Kaulig Racing for High-Stakes Chicago NASCAR Street Race

Kaulig Racing enters Will Brown for Chicago NASCAR race as the Australian Supercars champion prepares to make his mark at the iconic event on July 6, when the NASCAR Cup Series returns to the streets of Chicago. Brown will pilot the No. 13 Chevrolet, joining AJ Allmendinger and Ty Dillon, as Kaulig Racing aims for victory on one of the calendar’s most anticipated courses.

Will Brown Set to Compete in Chicago Street Race

Kaulig Racing confirmed that Will Brown, who won the 2024 Supercars Australia Championship with five wins and a record run of 19 podium finishes, will join their lineup for the Grant Park 165 NASCAR race in Chicago. Brown’s consistency set a new benchmark, as he became the first driver in four decades to finish on the podium at every round of a Supercars season.

The No. 13 Chevrolet Brown will drive receives primary support from MobileX, which offers customizable wireless services at Walmart and aims to deliver affordability for customers. Shaw and Partners Financial Services will also be a main sponsor, accompanied by several other backers, including QuadLock, KMC Wheels, Direct Plasterboard Outlet, Complete Parts & Equipment Solutions, Southern Cross Truck Rentals, Wurth, Supercars Championship Repco, Xpress Fleet, and Leaf Filter Gutter Protection.

Brown’s Excitement for the Chicago Challenge

Having observed the success of three-time Supercars champ Shane van Gisbergen at last year’s event and after experiencing his own Cup Series debut at Sonoma, Brown expressed his enthusiasm to race in Chicago.

“After watching SVG (Shane van Gisbergen) win the 2023 Chicago NASCAR race and getting to drive myself at Sonoma last year, I’ve been really keen to have a go at the Grant Park 165,”

—Will Brown, Supercars Champion

“The Supercars calendar aligned this year to give me time to get over to Charlotte early to prepare and give the race a crack! I have watched Kaulig Racing closely this season and I’m really excited to get behind the wheel of the MobileX and Shaw and Partners Financial Services No. 13!”

Kaulig Racing’s Track Record in Chicago

The upcoming event will mark NASCAR’s third appearance on Chicago’s historic downtown streets. The inaugural street race witnessed Shane van Gisbergen secure a win in his very first NASCAR start, shocking motorsport fans worldwide. Kaulig Racing nearly clinched victory in 2023, with Justin Haley guiding the No. 31 car to a second-place finish, after leading 23 of the 78 laps.

New Team, New Opportunity

This will be Brown’s first time racing with Kaulig, though he previously made his Cup Series debut at Sonoma with Richard Childress Racing. At Sonoma, Brown showed early promise, reaching third place in practice, but running into electrical troubles during both qualifying and the main race. These issues left him starting 24th and finishing 31st after losing a lap mid-race.

Kaulig Racing’s owner also highlighted the importance of welcoming Brown to the team for this major event.

“This is an amazing opportunity for Kaulig Racing to compete for a win in one of the most prestigious events on the calendar,”

—Matt Kaulig, Kaulig Racing Owner

“We are so excited to have Will (Brown) race with us and compete for the trophy. The team is ready, and we know he has the talent.”
