Carson Hocevar Prepares for Viva Mexico 250 as Totalplay Backs Historic NASCAR Cup Series Debut in Mexico

Carson Hocevar prepares for Viva Mexico 250 NASCAR Cup Series as Totalplay steps up as his main sponsor for the historic first Cup Series event in Mexico, set at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City on June 15. The telecommunications provider, which operates a cutting-edge fiber-optic network directly to homes in Mexico City, will have its brand featured on the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet for this international racing milestone.

Hocevar’s Perspective and Expectations for the New Venue

The upcoming event marks the inaugural points-paying NASCAR Cup Series race to take place outside the United States since the 1958 event in Toronto, Canada. While Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is well-known for hosting Formula 1’s Mexico City Grand Prix and had previously welcomed the NASCAR Xfinity Series from 2004 through 2008, this outing represents new territory for the Cup Series field.

Hocevar expressed his enthusiasm about NASCAR’s push into international venues and the potential for growth in the sport following several strong years of expansion.

“We’ve seen a lot of growth for the sport over the last several years, and because of that, I think it’s time that we have an international race and give that a try,”

He also acknowledged the unique challenge posed by Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, highlighting its reputation as a challenging road course that regularly features top-level racing from other motorsports disciplines.

Looking ahead to the event, Hocevar credited the No. 77 Spire Motorsports team for their continuous efforts to improve their road course performance and shared his optimism about their prospects.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how we unload at Mexico. The No. 77 team has put in a lot of effort to improve and find consistency from week to week no matter what type of course we’re racing. We finished 2024 with a strong finish at Watkins Glen and had made a lot of progress overall with our road course program. I expect we’ll have speed and since everyone is on an even playing field to start, we should have a good shot at a decent starting position. From there we’ll just learn with every lap and hope to be fighting for the win.”

Recent Results Highlight Hocevar’s Road Course Pedigree

Carson Hocevar has cemented himself as a skilled competitor on NASCAR’s road courses. In 2023, he captured a third-place finish at Go Bowling at the Glen, held at Watkins Glen International—demonstrating his ability to adapt and compete at the front of the field in these challenging events. His recent results are equally impressive, with the Portage, Michigan native securing a second-place finish at Nashville Superspeedway during the Cracker Barrel 400, marking his second time finishing as runner-up in the 2025 season so far.
