Hendrick Motorsports injury update: Alex Bowman reveals recovery details after terrifying Michigan wreck

Hendrick Motorsports injury update: Alex Bowman has spoken publicly about his recovery two weeks after a harrowing crash at Michigan International Speedway, where his No. 48 car was heavily damaged in a race incident. Bowman, who collided with the outside wall at high speed following contact with Daniel Suarez, offered details on his injuries and path to getting back behind the wheel.

Bowman Describes Aftermath of High-Speed Crash

During a recent race restart in Michigan, Alex Bowman was caught in the pack when Daniel Suarez spun, causing Bowman’s car to strike the wall head-on at approximately 150mph. The crash brought the event to a halt as Bowman’s Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet came to a stop in the middle of the track. NASCAR officials quickly responded, and medical teams assessed the situation on site.

Despite the severity of the impact, Bowman was fortunate to escape without any major injuries. NASCAR’s medical team cleared him to compete in the following race held in Mexico City, allowing him to remain in contention for the remainder of the Cup Series season. This quick clearance was vital, considering Bowman’s recent history with injury; in 2023, he missed several races due to a fractured vertebra.

Alex Bowman Provides Recovery Update

Speaking to media, including Dustin Long, ahead of last Sunday’s Pocono event, Bowman offered insight into his physical state and how the recovery process unfolded following the crash.

He noted that his discomfort peaked in the days shortly after the crash.

“Wednesday last week was the worst for me but this week its just a little bit annoying, so way better than I was,”

Bowman said in his remarks, reflecting on the rapid improvement in his physical condition over a short period.

Bowman explained that while he still experiences some limitations, such as not being able to engage in certain physical activities, his day-to-day routine has largely returned to normal. He added,

“You know? It’s not like I’m running right now or squatting right now. But other than that I can do almost everything that I could normally, so it wasn’t really a hindrance this week. So, yeah back pointed in the right direction for sure.”

“I’m back on the Sim, I was able to go to all of my meetings and kind of had a very normal week which was nice.”

This positive development allowed Bowman to return to racing for the important Cup Series round in Mexico City, a race he was grateful not to miss given its significance on the NASCAR calendar.

Playoff Position and Looking Ahead

In the aftermath of the Michigan crash, Bowman managed a strong performance by finishing fourth in Mexico City. With this result, he currently sits just inside the playoff cutoff, alongside Bubba Wallace in the current standings. Looking ahead, Bowman’s prospects for securing a playoff spot will be strengthened by a win in one of the remaining nine races in the Cup Series regular season.

Hendrick Motorsports and Bowman remain focused on making the most of upcoming opportunities, as rivals like Kyle Larson and concerns like penalties for various teams intensify competition. The coming weeks will be decisive for Bowman as he aims to secure his place in the 2025 NASCAR playoffs, hoping his recovery continues smoothly and he maintains strong performances on the track.
