Connor Zilisch Favored for Xfinity Series Championship Glory

Rookie driver Connor Zilisch heads into Saturday night’s race at Phoenix Raceway as the leading contender for the Connor Zilisch Xfinity Series championship, according to widespread predictions and sportsbook odds. The 19-year-old’s season dominance, historic results, and devoted fan following have set the stage for what could become one of the most memorable years in series history.

This season, Zilisch has captured 10 victories, achieved a record-breaking 18 straight top-five finishes, and led at least one lap in 20 consecutive races. Remarkably, he also visited Victory Lane eight times during an 11-race period. All of these accomplishments came even after Zilisch overcame a broken collarbone in November, demonstrating his resilience and determination throughout the year. His performance has caught the attention of Trackhouse Racing, with expectations set for him to join their Cup Series team in 2026.

Zilisch’s Strong Run Positions Him as Championship Favorite

Connor Zilisch is on the verge of his first and likely only NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers’ title. In the spring event at Phoenix’s 1-mile desert track, Zilisch led two laps but ultimately finished 16th. During the 2024 Championship 4 showdown, competing independently, he secured a strong fourth-place finish. Heading into the series finale, Zilisch shared his approach and preparation with NASCAR.com:

Driver Substitution After Mayer’s Suspension Shakes Up the Field

The lineup for the Xfinity Series finale changed when NASCAR officials suspended Sam Mayer due to his actions following the previous Saturday’s race at Martinsville Speedway. According to officials, following a contentious race with Jeb Burton, Mayer intentionally collided with his rival after the finish. As a result, the Haas Factory Team announced Ryan Sieg as Mayer’s replacement in the No. 41 Ford for Phoenix.

The Haas Factory Team commented on the decision:

“Although we are disappointed with the results, Haas Factory Team will not appeal the penalty NASCAR issued to Sam Mayer and the No. 41 team following last weekend’s race at Martinsville Speedway,”
