Austin Dillon Eyes Multiple NASCAR Cup Wins with RCR Reset

Austin Dillon is expressing renewed optimism about his prospects in the NASCAR Cup Series with Richard Childress Racing, looking ahead to upcoming seasons and the anticipated 2026 format changes. Having spent his entire full-time Cup career with his grandfather Richard Childress’s team, Dillon is setting his sights on achieving multiple victories, emphasizing performance and consistency within this evolving competitive landscape.

Reflecting on Past NASCAR Cup Series Successes and Aspirations

Dillon’s journey in the NASCAR Cup Series has seen him capture six wins from 435 starts, with his highest season finish being eleventh, achieved in 2017, 2020, and 2022. As he approaches future seasons, Dillon is turning to the lessons he learned during his championship runs in other NASCAR divisions, particularly under the older Chase format. He claimed the 2011 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship, securing two wins and tallying nine top-five results in a 25-race campaign. In the 2013 Xfinity Series, despite not visiting victory lane throughout the season, Dillon remained consistently powerful, earning seven poles, 13 top-five finishes, and 22 top-10s, leading or staying near the front of the standings for much of the campaign.

Reflecting on these achievements, Dillon credits his focus on consistency. He shared on a recent appearance on The Backstretch Podcast,

“My two championships come from being consistent. I think the biggest thing at the cup level is you got to have the speed and the performance behind you. That helps the consistency part of it. And I think we’ve learned a lot from stage racing that you have to stay aggressive to be able to gain stage points.”

– Austin Dillon, NASCAR Driver

Building from these insights, Dillon has laid out his strategy for the upcoming seasons.

“So, one focus or emphasis for us is to gain more stage points this year. But for me personally, the goal is to win multiple races this year. If I could get two wins in a season, that would mean a lot to me. Um, we’ve been able to win one a lot of different seasons throughout my career, but I’d like to win two,”

Recent Performance and Renewed Team Focus

Dillon wrapped up the latest NASCAR Cup Series season in fifteenth position overall, achieving his only victory at Richmond in the penultimate regular season event – a race track where he also celebrated a win in 2024. Beyond his triumph at Richmond, the season yielded five top-10 finishes, although none of those resulted in additional top-five showings.

Richard Childress Racing and Chevrolet’s Push for Improvement

The preceding season saw clear frustration within Richard Childress Racing, particularly from team owner Richard Childress regarding inconsistent results from Dillon and fellow driver Kyle Busch. This sentiment was voiced over the team radio following a difficult race at Dover, where neither driver managed a top-10 finish.

“Gotta get some race cars. We are in trouble. Period.”

– Richard Childress, Team Owner

Despite these challenges, Dillon remains positive about the steps being taken within RCR. He has cited improvements in team structure, emphasizing the benefit of maintaining continuity among team personnel and expressing anticipation regarding the introduction of Chevrolet’s new Cup car body. With the next season soon to begin at Daytona, Dillon and the organization are viewing this as a critical opportunity to reset objectives and push for better outcomes as a team.

The Significance of RCR’s Reset and What Lies Ahead

As Austin Dillon and Richard Childress Racing look to the upcoming years, their renewed strategies and key changes—such as leveraging consistency, targeting more stage points, and optimizing the new Chevrolet car—could prove pivotal for their performance in the NASCAR Cup Series. Dillon’s focus on achieving multiple wins echoes both personal ambition and a broader push for competitiveness at RCR, setting the stage for heightened excitement as future seasons unfold.
