Brad Keselowski, the former NASCAR Cup Series champion, has received medical clearance for his long-awaited Daytona 500 return, reigniting excitement among fans and the RFK Racing organization. Nearly two months after sustaining a leg injury in December, Keselowski is preparing to drive the No. 6 Ford Mustang at the renowned superspeedway, reaffirming his determination and passion for the sport.
The Recovery Journey and Relentless Preparation
Following his injury, Keselowski, 41, took a strategic pause by missing the Cookout Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, focusing his attention on healing and successfully passing his medical tests. During this period, Corey LaJoie stepped in as the substitute driver for the No. 6 car, allowing the team to stay competitive while their owner and lead driver worked towards recovery.
“Getting cleared was a huge moment for me. You put in the work, you trust the process, but until you hear that final ‘yes,’ nothing is guaranteed,”
Keselowski, visibly relieved, shared. The drive to compete in the Daytona 500 was a major motivating factor for his disciplined rehabilitation.
“Knowing what Daytona means, and how hard it would have been to miss it, made this moment even bigger. I’m grateful to the medical team and to NASCAR for being thorough, and I’m excited to get back in the car,”
he added, emphasizing the race’s significance and his commitment to returning to action.
Discipline, Mindset, and Team Spirit Define the Comeback
After securing his 2012 Cup Series title, Keselowski’s competitive focus sharpened further during recovery, with the opening race of the 2026 season set as a clear target. Reflecting on his journey, he explained,
“This process was about discipline and patience. There were no shortcuts.”
His dedication was reinforced daily in his workout area, where a motivational sign inspired him:

“I had a poster in my workout area that said, ‘Daytona. Earned not given,’ and that became my mindset every day. The focus was on getting stronger, improving mobility, and making sure I was truly ready to race.”
RFK Racing’s High Hopes and Daytona Aspirations
The entire RFK Racing team, eager for Daytona 500 success, stands behind Keselowski as he gets set for his return. Their Ford cars have shown speed at superspeedways in recent seasons, and with their recent win at the Clash—their first since 1999—the organization is optimistic about starting the new season strongly.
