Tyler Reddick Scores Dramatic Daytona 500 Win for Toyota

Tyler Reddick delivered a memorable performance at Daytona International Speedway, clinching his first Daytona 500 victory and giving Toyota its first win in the event since 2020. The Tyler Reddick Daytona 500 win marks a significant milestone for both the California-native and 23XI Racing, as the organization celebrates its inaugural triumph in the Great American Race.

For 23XI Racing, this achievement not only elevates the team but also allows co-owner Denny Hamlin to add another accolade to his impressive Daytona 500 resume. Hamlin, previously victorious as a driver in 2016, 2019, and 2020, now joins the winner’s circle as an owner thanks to Reddick’s tenacity throughout the closing laps.

Toyota Drivers Dominate in a Challenging Race

The Daytona 500 saw standout performances from several Toyota drivers. All three full-time 23XI Racing competitors—Tyler Reddick, Riley Herbst, and Bubba Wallace—secured top-10 finishes, underlining the strength of the team. Bubba Wallace showcased impressive speed by leading the race for 40 laps, the most of any driver in the field. Chase Briscoe and John Hunter Nemechek also took turns at the front, with 23 and 19 laps led, respectively.

Toyota’s race day dominance was clear, with the manufacturer pacing the field for 103 of the event’s 200 laps. The triumph at Daytona continued Toyota’s recent success in NASCAR’s grandest events, following wins at the Brickyard 400 by Bubba Wallace and the Southern 500 by Chase Briscoe.

Final Race Results Highlight Toyota Success

The official results underscored Toyota’s strong showing. Tyler Reddick claimed the top spot, while Riley Herbst and Bubba Wallace secured eighth and tenth places, respectively. Additional Toyota drivers such as Erik Jones, Ty Gibbs, John Hunter Nemechek, and Corey Heim contributed to an overall solid performance.

Other notable finishers included Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in second, Joey Logano in third, Chase Elliott in fourth, and Brad Keselowski in fifth. While not all Toyota drivers finished at the front, the manufacturer’s teamwork played a crucial role throughout the race’s pivotal moments.

Driver and Team Reactions Reflect Joy and Relief

After clinching the victory, Reddick reflected on the surreal moment and his lifelong dream fulfilled:

“I had that weird moment where I think everyone was too busy screaming and I was like, ‘did we win?’ Man, it’s something — as a kid, I grew up watching the Daytona 500 with my family and just dreamed of being a NASCAR Cup Series driver one day. And, then obviously really wanted to win the 500 so I just – it takes a lot of work, it takes a lot of things to go the right way. We did it today.”

Discussing the race’s dramatic finish, Reddick detailed the challenges and the teamwork that propelled him to victory:

“Yeah, you know, I think we had that crash and got really split up there. I was three-wide and wasn’t where I wanted to be and just everyone is kind of going for themselves out there and Riley Herbst, my teammate, picked me up and pushed me, got me back to those first two cars. From there, man, just tried to keep the momentum going in my favor. I wasn’t going to push anybody and just got really fortunate. Riley went to the top of Chase (Elliott) that I was able to get by them before they got to the end.”

Tyler Gibbs, president of TRD U.S.A., expressed his enthusiasm for the teamwork and the significance of starting the NASCAR season with maximum points:

“Absolutely incredible. Without Riley (Herbst) and the teamwork that we had all day – just an incredible result. That was amazing all the way to the end. For all of the cars involved, I’m glad that everybody is okay.”

— Tyler Gibbs, President, TRD U.S.A.

On the importance of this result for Toyota Racing Development, Gibbs highlighted how it positively impacts the team’s championship aspirations:

“It is huge for us. You look at the way the points stack up, the way that it works with the championship format – for Tyler (Reddick) to start off with this many points, how steady he was a couple of years ago, this is exactly the way to start.”

— Tyler Gibbs, President, TRD U.S.A.

Summing up the result, Gibbs said:

“I love it. You’ve seen the fuel mileage game played multiple times over different manufacturers depending on how pit strategy works out. For us today, we played it a little bit and then we went for it in the end. Just really good to see the speed in our Camrys.”
