At EchoPark Speedway, Austin Hill and Jesse Love of Richard Childress Racing (RCR) are fueling a growing Richard Childress Racing rivalry as both drivers continue to excel on big tracks, capturing attention ahead of Saturday’s Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250. Their competitive spirit has intensified, with each pushing the other to new heights, making RCR’s internal matchup one of the most watched storylines in NASCAR racing this season.
Impressive Track Records Spark Team Competition
Austin Hill returns to his home track with an exceptional record, having clinched five victories in the last seven Atlanta races, including back-to-back wins at this event. Jesse Love, RCR’s reigning O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion, complements this dominance by consistently qualifying near the front, recently securing pole positions in three of Atlanta’s last four races. Their combined successes underscore RCR’s deep talent pool and raise the question of how close competition between the two is shaping their performances.
Teammates Acknowledge the Intensifying Rivalry
With both Hill and Love performing at such a high level, curiosity has grown regarding the dynamic between them. They each acknowledged the motivating force they provide for one another, adding intensity and excitement to the team’s atmosphere.
“I guess there is that motivation because Austin hangs a lot of banners up at RCR,’’ Love remarked about his teammate’s winning streak. “So I have that and that rivalry. … Especially at these race tracks he’s the toughest one to beat and I definitely learn a lot from him. At the end of the race sometimes we’re racing other people in the field, but nine times out of 10 we’re racing for the win.’’ — Jesse Love, Reigning O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Champion

Success at Superspeedways Raises the Stakes
Hill, fresh off a Daytona season-opening win in the No. 21 RCR Chevrolet, openly recognized the challenge Love’s No. 2 RCR Chevy poses on the circuit’s fastest tracks, such as Daytona, Atlanta, and Talladega. Both drivers acknowledged that while their rivalry is fierce, it remains friendly and constructive, elevating their standards and driving their shared ambition for RCR success.
“I would say when we’re out here at these speedways especially here at Atlanta, the number one car I don’t want behind me at the end of the race is the No. 2 car because I know he has just as good equipment as I have and he knows what he’s doing on these superspeedways
“So him talking about me being his biggest threat, he’s my biggest threat I feel like. There’s always that little fun rivalry you have inside the shop, but I think it kind of elevates both of us to the next level and pushes us to be better on the race track. We work well together when we have to, but then when it’s gloves off and we’re going or the win we’re going to try everything we can not to lose the race for both of us – but obviously he wants to win and I want to win for our team. It’s a fun little rivalry when we come to these places.’’ — Austin Hill, No. 21 RCR Chevrolet Driver
Other Competitors and the Qualifying Results
As the competition heats up between RCR teammates, other teams are also making their presence felt. Sam Mayer, representing Haas Factory Team, earned the Kennametal Pole Position in the No. 41 Chevrolet Camaro during the Friday qualifying session. Love qualified tenth on the grid, while Hill will begin the race from twentieth, suggesting there will be plenty of action as both navigate through a competitive field.
What This Rivalry Means for Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR
The spirited battle between Hill and Love is fostering a culture of excellence within RCR, pushing both drivers to perform at their best and setting high standards for the organization. As the Richard Childress Racing rivalry unfolds, NASCAR fans can expect thrilling showdowns not only between teammates but also against the rest of the field. With both drivers chasing victories and championships, their collaboration and competition are likely to be pivotal storylines at EchoPark Speedway and beyond.
