Alex Bowman has been sidelined from the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway after being diagnosed with vertigo this week. The news comes as Bowman, who drives the Ally Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, continues to recover after experiencing symptoms during last Sunday’s road course race at Circuit of The Americas.
Bowman’s Health Takes Priority After Medical Evaluations
Bowman, a Tucson native, left Sunday’s race after 71 laps when vertigo symptoms forced him from his car. He subsequently underwent two days of medical evaluations and later completed laps at the Ten Tenths Motor Club road course in Concord as part of his recovery process. His absence from the Phoenix event is a direct result of medical advice to prioritize his health and ensure a full recovery.
“Alex has worked very hard over the last several days,”
said Jeff Andrews, president of Hendrick Motorsports.
“We’re encouraged by the progress he’s making, but we have to prioritize his health above all else. It’s obviously frustrating for him because he’s a competitor and wants to be in the race car, especially at his home track. We’ll continue to support Alex and look forward to his return as soon as he’s medically cleared.”

Anthony Alfredo Steps In for Phoenix
Anthony Alfredo, a native of Ridgefield, Connecticut, is set to drive the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet at Phoenix Raceway in Bowman’s place. Alfredo, age 26, brings experience from 210 starts across NASCAR’s national series, including 43 at the Cup level. He is also known for his significant simulator testing contributions for both Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet.
Hendrick Motorsports Aims to Secure Bowman’s Championship Eligibility
Hendrick Motorsports intends to request a medical waiver on Bowman’s behalf to maintain his eligibility for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series championship. The team emphasizes its ongoing support for Bowman and will await clearance from medical professionals regarding his return. As the event at Phoenix unfolds, attention will remain on Bowman’s recovery and the team’s ongoing efforts in the series.
