In 1958, Richard Petty married Lynda Owens, beginning a lifelong partnership that would see them through triumphs and tragedies. Lynda played a supportive role in Petty’s racing career, standing by his side as he pursued greatness on the racetrack. Sadly, Lynda passed away from cancer on March 25, 2014, at their home in Level Cross, North Carolina, leaving behind a profound legacy of love and support. Tragedy struck the Petty family once again when Lynda’s brother, Randy Owens, a member of Richard’s pit crew, lost his life at just 19 years old during a pit road accident at the 1975 Winston 500.
