Remembering Leo Jackson Jr.: A NASCAR Pioneer’s Enduring Legacy

Remembering Leo Jackson Jr.: Former NASCAR Cup Series team owner and accomplished crew chief, Leo Jackson Jr., has passed away at the age of 90. Jackson’s legacy in the world of motorsports has left an indelible mark.

Leo Jackson, along with his brother Richard Jackson, established Jackson Bros. Motorsports in 1985. Together, they ventured into the fast-paced world of NASCAR racing. However, Richard later ventured out to form his own team, Precision Products Racing, in 1990. Subsequently, the team continued under the banner of Leo Jackson Motorsports until it was acquired by Andy Petree in 1997.

Over the years, Leo Jackson Motorsports saw a roster of talented drivers take the wheel, including Phil Parsons, Benny Parsons, and Robert Pressley. However, it was the partnership with the iconic Harry Gant that brought the most success. Gant, piloting the Skoal-sponsored No. 33 machine, secured an impressive nine victories during his tenure with Jackson as the team owner between 1989 and 1992.

Notably, Phil Parsons contributed an additional victory for the team in 1988, showcasing the competitive spirit that defined Jackson’s presence in NASCAR.
