Brodie Kostecki NASCAR Expansion: Richard Childress’ Ambitious Plans for 2024

Brodie Kostecki NASCAR Expansion: Richard Childress, the NASCAR Cup Series team owner, has set his sights on expanding Australian racer Brodie Kostecki’s schedule for the upcoming 2024 season, as revealed through a series of interviews conducted during the V8 Supercars season finale in Adelaide.

Kostecki, representing Richard Childress Racing, showcased his prowess at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Despite a setback in qualifying resulting in a starting position at the rear of the field, Kostecki, who began 11th, concluded the race in 22nd place after a 77-lap green flag run.

During his time in Australia, Childress was actively involved in supporting Kostecki’s championship aspirations, notably in a fierce battle against Shane van Gisbergen. Van Gisbergen, a prominent figure in motorsports, recently inked a deal with Trackhouse Racing to venture into NASCAR, following his victory at the Chicago Street Race in 2023, now steering his focus toward a NASCAR career.

Expressing his intentions, Childress stating, “Hopefully, we can race him two or three times on the road courses. But I want to run him on an oval; he’s raced on them earlier in his career.”

In an interview, Childress outlined the objectives behind his visit to Australia. “One of the reasons I am coming over is to possibly talk to a couple of the sponsors that were involved with us and see if we can get the sponsorship lined up and see if we can bring him over again,” he mentioned. “I would like to run him in at least four, maybe five (races). We have a few road courses, but would like to also run him in an oval over here.”

The notion of Kostecki attempting an oval race for RCR isn’t surprising given his previous participation in the ARCA Menards Series East during 2013 and 2014.

While attending the race, Childress had the opportunity to experience a hot lap courtesy of his new prized driver. Reflecting on the ride-along experience, Childress remarked, “Back when I drove, it was totally different to what it’s like today. These are more high-tech cars. Just like the car we’re racing in America today, it’s a high-tech car just like this.”

The 2024 Cup Series schedule features five road courses, commencing with the Circuit of the Americas in March, setting the stage for an exciting and potentially expanded involvement of Brodie Kostecki with Richard Childress Racing.
