Joe Gibbs Dual Spotlight: NFL Legacy and Aric Almirola’s Return to JGR Racing

Joe Gibbs Dual Spotlight: Esteemed NASCAR Hall of Fame team owner Joe Gibbs made an appearance at Landover during the NFL clash between the Washington Commanders and Miami Dolphins. Gibbs boasts an impressive legacy coaching the Commanders across 16 seasons in two separate periods, securing three Super Bowl victories during his tenure. His career record stands at an impressive 171–101 (.629), solidifying his reputation as one of the NFL’s most esteemed coaches.

During Sunday’s game, the head of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), Gibbs himself, was accompanied by Christopher Bell, his Cup Series driver, who notably represented the sole Toyota driver in the 2023 Cup Series finale. Alongside Bell was former Stewart-Haas Racing driver Aric Almirola. Gibbs took the opportunity to introduce both racers to Josh Harris, a co-owner of the Commanders and a minority stakeholder in JGR.

While introducing Bell to Harris, Gibbs proceeded to announce Almirola’s future endeavors, affirming, “Aric is driving for us now.” Almirola, who retired from full-time racing this year, had been exploring Xfinity rides. It appears he has found a new racing home at JGR.

Almirola’s history with JGR dates back to earlier NASCAR ventures. He previously raced for the team during his debut in both the Cup and Xfinity Series, culminating in his inaugural NASCAR race victory. Between 2005 and 2007, Almirola participated in over 20 races for JGR on a part-time basis. Notably, in his final year with the team, he triumphed at Milwaukee. His debut in the Cup series also occurred with JGR in the same season at Vegas before transitioning to DEI.
