Jimmie Johnson 2024 NASCAR Return: Jimmie Johnson recently confirmed his participation in select NASCAR Cup Series races throughout 2024. While the complete schedule remains undisclosed, the co-owner of Legacy Motor Club revealed the reunion with former Hendrick Motorsports figure Jason Burdett, who will serve as his crew chief for the forthcoming season.
Burdett’s shift to Legacy follows a notable stint of nine seasons in the Xfinity Series with Dale Earnhardt Jr’s JR Motorsports. His tenure with the team involved collaborations with Xfinity standouts Justin Allgaier, Brandon Jones, and Regan Smith.
A recognized figure in NASCAR, Burdett played a pivotal role in Jeff Gordon’s 2001 championship win at Hendrick Motorsports. It was during his tenure at HMS that he initially partnered with Jimmie Johnson.
Expressing his enthusiasm about Burdett’s full-time inclusion at LMC, Jimmie Johnson, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, stated in a press release: “I have a long history of working with Jason at Hendrick Motorsports we’ve had a lot of shared experiences over the years.
He further added, “Jason is one of the most respected individuals I’ve encountered in the sport. His reliability and significant contributions speak for themselves. I’ve always valued our working relationship, and I’m genuinely thrilled about his association with the Club.”
Burdett also reflected on his past with Jimmie Johnson, stating, “I’m thrilled to join Legacy Motor Club and reunite with Jimmie. I was part of Jimmie’s team from the very beginning and witnessed his inaugural win in 2002. I’m truly impressed by the legacy Jimmie has built over the years, and I’m honored to contribute to continuing that legacy alongside him.”
Moreover, Legacy Motor Club also announced the promotion of Evan Bensch as the lead engineer, previously serving in an engineering role for the number 43 car.
In an additional update, Jimmie Johnson unveiled three of the multiple races he intends to compete in during the upcoming year. AdventHealth, a former sponsor of Trackhouse Racing and Chip Ganassi, will endorse Johnson and Erik Jones for these specific races Texas, Charlotte Motor Speedway, and Kansas Speedway. Erik Jones will also feature AdventHealth’s colors at the esteemed Daytona 500.
Following the deal, Terry Shaw, president and CEO of AdventHealth, shared, “We are excited to partner with Legacy Motor Club and drivers Erik Jones and Jimmie Johnson, and we anticipate a successful 2024 race season.
AdventHealth had previously backed Ross Chastain for a total of 15 races in 2022 and 2023. Johnson’s return to racing alongside new sponsors and team executives marks an intriguing development for the upcoming season.
