Aric Almirola Return to Joe Gibbs Racing: A New Chapter in Mentorship and Racing Legacy

Aric Almirola Return to Joe Gibbs Racing: Joe Gibbs Racing recently unveiled its Xfinity Series lineup for the upcoming 2024 NASCAR season, notably featuring veteran racer Aric Almirola. At 39 years old, Almirola will make a return to the organization after two decades, splitting driving duties in the No. 20 Toyota with John Hunter Nemechek on a part-time basis.

Almirola expressed gratitude and humility through a social media post, acknowledging the unexpected turn of events. “I am so grateful and humbled that [Joe Gibbs] called and asked me to come back home to JGR and finish my career here,” he shared on Instagram. The veteran racer emphasized his desire to spend more time with family, relish moments behind the wheel, and assist others in their aspirations.

Before rejoining Joe Gibbs Racing, Almirola competed with Stewart-Haas Racing in the premier Cup Series, amassing seven victories since his NASCAR debut in 2006. Reflecting on his past, he mentioned feeling the need to step back from the demanding Cup Series schedule: “I feel like I still have a lot left to give to this sport, I just needed to slow down.

Almirola’s decision to transition back to Joe Gibbs Racing was swayed by the chance to mentor younger drivers and share his racing experiences. “Throughout the course of my career, I’ve made so many mistakes… so I do feel like I have a lot to give to speed up the learning curve,” he remarked, emphasizing the significance of personal experience in learning.

The veteran racer, known for his outspokenness regarding faith, opened up about his spiritual journey on the Sports Spectrum Podcast. Almirola shared moments of surrendering his racing career to a higher purpose and finding solace in his faith. Despite the demanding NASCAR schedule, he remains dedicated to his spiritual practices, seeking communion with God even during the busiest of times.

Now positioned as a mentor, Almirola aims to utilize his extensive knowledge both on and off the track for the greater good. He remains steadfast in his belief that 2024 will offer opportunities to positively influence others and serve a higher purpose within the NASCAR community.
