At Talladega Superspeedway during the Ag-Pro 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race, Austin Hill broke a long-standing record. Hill edged out Jeb Burton and Jesse Love in a thrilling three-wide photo finish, determined by an electronic timestamp after a dramatic final-lap crash.
This outstanding victory officially made Austin Hill the all-time leader in superspeedway wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. With this accomplishment, Hill has now surpassed two of NASCAR’s biggest legends, Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart, who were previously tied with him at eight superspeedway wins. Hill’s record now stands at nine career victories on drafting-style tracks, which include renowned venues such as Talladega, Daytona, and Atlanta.
The excitement unfolded when Jesse Love made contact with race leader Connor Zilisch just after the white flag, causing Zilisch to spin into the infield wall. This triggered a caution during a heated battle among Hill, Burton, and Love, who were fighting three-wide for the lead.
NASCAR later confirmed that Hill’s No. 21 Chevrolet was ahead when the field was frozen, awarding him his first-ever victory at Talladega and his third win of the 2025 season. Reflecting on the momentous win, Hill shared with NASCAR.com, “It was all about getting to the line first, and we did just that.”
Jesse Love finished in third place, followed closely by Justin Allgaier in fourth. Matt DiBenedetto also impressed with his best-ever Xfinity finish by securing fifth place. Rounding out the top ten were Anthony Alfredo, Blaine Perkins, Harrison Burton, Sheldon Creed, and Daniel Dye. Austin Hill expressed his admiration for the driver who finished second, acknowledging the fierce competition.
As the series moves on to Texas Motor Speedway for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 on May 3, Hill currently sits second in the points standings, trailing Justin Allgaier by 79 points. Race coverage will commence at 2 p.m. ET on The CW.
Previously, Austin Hill had shared his thoughts regarding another race incident that captured attention — the wreck fest at Martinsville Speedway during the US Marine Corps 250. He opened up about his role in a multi-car crash during the final stage, which was ignited by a misjudged bump on Christian Eckes, resulting in teammates Jesse Love and Carson Kvapil also being taken out.
Frustrated by earlier moves made against him by Eckes, Hill admitted that he sought retribution but miscalculated his approach. Speaking to reporters, Hill noted, “I knew I shouldn’t have done that, but in the heat of the moment, it happened.”
Austin Hill also addressed an incident with Carson Kvapil, where he refrained from lifting when Kvapil cut across his nose. Despite these challenges, Austin Hill ultimately benefited from the final lap crash, which allowed him to triumph at Martinsville.
