Front Row Motorsports, 23XI Drop F1 Financial Subpoena: Antitrust Lawsuit Update Explained

Front Row Motorsports, together with 23XI Racing, has officially dismissed court proceedings in their effort to compel Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1, to comply with a financial information subpoena, according to a recent update on May 7, 2025. The abrupt dismissal comes as a surprise to many, particularly because no public explanation has been given as to whether the teams received the data they requested, settled privately, or simply decided to withdraw their demands entirely.

This legal action formed part of the broader antitrust lawsuit led by Front Row Motorsports and 23XI Racing, in which both teams sought detailed financial records from Formula 1, covering the period from January 1, 2016, through December 31, 2024. The motivation behind the request was to better understand the financial structures underpinning Formula 1, especially during the time when Charter Agreements were first implemented in NASCAR. The lack of charter systems in Formula 1, replaced instead by the renowned Concorde Agreement, added more intrigue and urgency to their pursuit.

Despite this recent development, related antitrust lawsuits against other major sports organizations, including INDYCAR, NFL, NHL, and NBA, are set to continue, demonstrating the persistent unrest rippling through professional motorsports and beyond.

“Either the teams settled and got some info or just dropped this quest,”

reported journalist Bob Pockrass via social media, reflecting the current uncertainty and unease surrounding the case’s resolution.

The dismissal leaves many questioning what prompted the sudden shift, as Front Row Motorsports’ case against Formula 1 was seen as a bold push for transparency. Ultimately, this episode may signal a temporary pause, not a conclusion, in the ongoing battle over access to sensitive financial data within the racing industry.
