Corey Heim’s Lap-Led Stats Put Him Among Truck Series Greats
Fifteen races into the 2025 season, Corey Heim has quietly crafted one of the most commanding campaigns in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history. The driver of the No. 11 truck has led 988 of the 2,319 laps completed so far — a staggering 42.60% — the highest ever recorded in a single Truck Series season.
That mark surpasses the previous benchmark set by Mike Skinner in 1995, who led just over 35% of all laps that year. It also places Heim well ahead of other historic names in the series, including Ron Hornaday Jr., Jack Sprague, and Kyle Busch.
Most Laps Led by Percentage in a Single Season (Truck Series)
Rank | Driver | Season | Laps Led | Total Laps | % Laps Led |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Corey Heim | 2025 | 988 | 2,319 | 42.60% |
2 | Mike Skinner | 1995 | 1,053 | 3,004 | 35.05% |
3 | Mike Skinner | 1996 | 1,533 | 4,536 | 33.80% |
4 | Ron Hornaday Jr. | 2008 | 1,326 | 4,082 | 32.48% |
5 | Jack Sprague | 2001 | 1,386 | 4,280 | 32.38% |
6 | Ron Hornaday Jr. | 1995 | 944 | 3,004 | 31.42% |
7 | Christian Eckes | 2024 | 1,050 | 3,609 | 29.09% |
8 | Kyle Busch | 2010 | 1,076 | 3,884 | 27.70% |
9 | Ron Hornaday Jr. | 2009 | 1,091 | 4,009 | 27.21% |
10 | Mike Skinner | 2007 | 1,105 | 4,073 | 27.13% |
What makes Heim’s performance even more impressive is that there are still several races left on the schedule. If his current pace holds — or improves — he could finish the season with a statistical dominance the series has never seen. Kyle Busch’s 2010 season remains notable for his 27.70% lap-led rate despite only running 16 of 25 races. But Heim is competing full-time, giving him the opportunity to put up historic totals across the board.
All Eyes on Indianapolis Raceway Park
The next test for Heim will be Friday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park, where the Truck Series will headline the first of three race nights during NASCAR’s weekend swing through Indiana. The TSport 200 is scheduled to go green at 8:00 p.m. ET on FS1, following practice at 3:05 p.m. and qualifying at 4:10 p.m.
Heim has shown strength at a variety of track types in 2025 — short tracks, intermediates, and even dirt — and IRP offers another chance for him to flex his versatility. If he leads a significant number of laps Friday, his already record-setting percentage could climb even higher.
Rain Looms Over Friday’s Busy NASCAR Schedule
While Heim’s historic run is the main story, weather could become the headline Friday. Forecasts call for a 55% chance of rain throughout the day, which could impact all scheduled sessions across Cup, Xfinity, ARCA, and Truck Series events.
The Truck Series is slated to practice and qualify in the afternoon, but inclement weather may force NASCAR to make adjustments. In a worst-case scenario, qualifying could be canceled, and the field set by owner points — a development that could affect track position for several playoff contenders, Heim included.
Friday’s on-track schedule includes:
3:05 p.m. ET – Truck Series Practice (FS1)
4:10 p.m. ET – Truck Series Qualifying (FS1)
8:00 p.m. ET – Truck Series TSport 200 (FS1)
As always, NASCAR will closely monitor conditions and adapt accordingly, though no formal schedule changes have been announced as of yet.
News in Brief: NASCAR Truck Series Record Laps Led
Corey Heim has already made history in the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, leading 42.60% of all laps — more than any driver in a single year in series history. His dominance places him atop legends like Mike Skinner and Ron Hornaday Jr. Heim will look to add to those totals in Friday night’s TSport 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park, assuming weather doesn’t interfere. A 55% chance of rain is in the forecast for Friday, threatening practice, qualifying, and the race itself. If all goes as scheduled, Heim has a chance to push his historic lap-led rate even higher.
