Chase Elliott, the reigning NASCAR Cup champion and fan favorite, recently spoke about his stance on a potential move to Formula 1, clarifying his position on the Chase Elliott F1 career decision. During a guest spot on Bobby Bones’ show, Elliott explained that he has never been approached to drive an F1 car, nor does he intend to pursue that route at this stage in his racing journey.
While chatting with Bobby Bones, the host inquired whether Elliott had watched the newly released Formula 1-themed movie, to which Elliott replied he had not seen it. When further asked if he’d ever driven an F1 car, the Hendrick Motorsports driver admitted the opportunity had never come his way, stating he had not been asked to try it.
“I’ve never done it, and probably never will be asked, which is, totally respect that, too. It’s a totally different path, number one. Not saying that I could or or couldn’t do it. It’s just a different discipline truthfully. I’m way too old, which is crazy, but I’m too old at this point in my life to even think about making a transition of that nature.”

“I mean, those teams are signing kids when they’re probably 10 years old or something and bringing them up through some sort of a farm system. And if they get developed and they think they have a chance, then they get opportunities. But the cars, certainly from, being a motorsports fan, I love watching F1.”

Elliott noted that the route to a Formula 1 seat is entirely different from his NASCAR experience, mentioning that teams frequently identify and sign young talent very early, nurturing them through lengthy development systems. As a lifelong fan of motorsports, Elliott said he genuinely enjoys watching F1 but emphasized the differences in discipline and preparation between the two racing worlds.
Elliott Shares Enthusiasm for Formula 1 and Recent Rivalries
Despite not planning to race in F1, Chase Elliott emphasized his appreciation for the sport. He has followed the action closely for the past six or seven years, particularly highlighting memorable title battles such as those between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, as well as Max Verstappen‘s fierce competition with Hamilton. According to Elliott, Formula 1 offers an excellent product and has excelled in marketing the sport to fans worldwide.

While on the subject of Hollywood’s recent approach to motorsports, Elliott revealed he has not yet watched the much-talked-about Formula 1 movie. He admitted he is not typically attracted to motorsports movies, describing himself as a purist who prefers the sport in its authentic form rather than dramatizations.
Discussing Hydration Challenges and Nutrition During NASCAR Races
During the ongoing conversation, Bobby Bones shifted the topic to the physical demands NASCAR drivers like Elliott face, particularly regarding hydration and the toll of long races. Elliott described how drivers endure high temperatures inside the car and significant sweating, making hydration a crucial aspect of race preparation and recovery.
“It’s hot. I would say that’s the toughest part for us physically is the heat and sustaining that for 3 or 4 hours. But we do have water, drink bags almost like a camel back. I have never personally weighed myself after a race, but I have had friends who have, and if it’s on a really, really hot weekend, like five to eight pounds, something along those lines,” he described.

Elliott detailed that some drivers have noticed dramatic weight loss during hot race weekends, sometimes dropping between five to eight pounds. To manage this, drivers commonly use hydration packs throughout the race, aiming to replenish fluids and cope with the demanding temperatures inside their vehicles.
When it comes to his dietary choices before competing, Elliott prefers to keep things simple, often opting for straightforward meals like chicken with rice or pasta. He stressed that the combination of proper hydration and sensible food selections is key to maintaining performance on race day.
Looking Ahead: Impact of Elliott’s F1 Decision
Elliott’s confirmation that he will not seek a Formula 1 career provides clarity for NASCAR fans and quells ongoing speculation. By underscoring the unique developmental path required for F1, he highlights the specialized training involved in reaching that level, setting realistic expectations for those following his career. With his ongoing success in NASCAR, his insights into both racing environments bring added perspective for fans appreciative of the distinctions between motorsports disciplines.
